| Puppy Care Packages... does anyone do this? Suggestions? My name is Amber, I'm from Columubs, Ohio and this is my first post! I'm new at this breeding thing, but I've done lots of research and I've owned yorkies for over 12 years now. One of my females had her first litter and I've got 1 of the 2 puppies sold. I'd like to send home a puppy care package with each puppy. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to include? I was thinking including some wee-wee pads, small sample bag of puppy food, a blanket or plush toy with Mommy's scent and some baby shampoo (I bathe my dogs in baby shampoo). Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank You!

| I love getting the puppy gift baskets ready! I change it a little for each litter but it usually include: A bag of Royal Canin puppy food, their vet book, 2 designer outfits, some pee pads, 3-4 toys,a bag of dental treats, a blanket, a puppy photo album and some helpful information. |

| Great ideas!! I would also like to provide a health guarantee with the puppies. I reviewed your site Chantal... and I like how your purchase agreement is written. You really are very organized and very professional! Awesome! Anybody else have ideas and/or suggestions on care packages?

| It's great that you give "extras", another good thing would be--a single dose of heartworm medication w/information on heartworms(I bet you can get brochures from your area vet clinics), that way the new owner will hopefully gain the knowledge and keep their new baby on preventative. |

| I have totally enjoyed making my puppy packs. I bought nice big shoulder bags and inside I have included each puppies "Puppy album" binder which has sections inside including PICTURES- a pic of mom and dad, and brothers and sister, a pic of mom with all the pups, pics of the pup from birth till it goes home, CONTRACTS- a copy of the deposit contract and puppy contract, FOOD-Receipes for home cooking, lists of foods good for your puppies and foods that are dangerous, HEALTH- Health sheet from the vet which includes tail/dewclaw dates, shots given etc, health sheet from me that includes weights from day they were born till ??, the date and time they were born, what number in the birth sequence, markings etc. WEBSITES-A list of websites to reference including YT, CONTACT-My contact info INFORMATION- Supplies to have at home for a new puppy (I am giving each new Mommy a copy on their first visit of the supplies sheet) I wrote to Chicken Soup For the Dog Lovers Soul (which is what I am feeding) they were VERY generous in sending 2 cases of samples of puppy food so I am including numerous samples of puppy food and the product info sheets. A toy A receiving blanket that I will stick in with everyone the night before they all go home so they smell like the pups family. I have enjoyed all of the puppy hoopla so far. I am always excited for the next stage.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I think puppy packages are such a fantastic idea! Especially for new owners to yorkies. I think it's so important to include Nutrical bc when it's needed, it's needed NOW. Love the idea of including a little harness. I think it'd be great to include a short, easy "cheat sheet" - like bullet points that say -- for example, things like -> never use a collar for leashing yorkies due to CT vulnerability, do not change food or add any new food for at least 3 wks, never allow a vet to give rabies the same day as any other shots, signs of hypoglycemia are ___, don't allow yorkies alone w/ very young kids or big dogs....etc etc...you get the idea. And then, I also love Mardelin's idea of websites - like Dr. Dodd's vaccine schedule site, and others.

You are right about the NutriCal. However, I do included instructions on it's administering. If over done it can lead to Diabetis. I add a copy of Dr Dodd's Vaccination Protocol. As well as my preferance, as their breeder on rabies administration, lyme, corona. Supplying as much information to them as possible. My baby books read like a copy of War & Peace....started out small, but has grown over the years. I pretty much don't place my pups in families with young children or with large dogs.

| First of all : WELCOME I think it is a lot of fun to put the puppy starter kits together and personalize it. You have some great examples here. One thing that i do not think it was mentioned is about the food you are feeding the puppies... sudden change of food can cause diarrhea, but you can order from the manufactures a brochure or a folder with important information on why you choose this food and why do you recomend it. I have my choice of food, but i am not partial to advertising in here ... So contact the brand of food you are currently feeding and check on what tipe of coupons, free food samples and brochure information they are willing to provide you FREE OF COST to you to pass along in your puppy starter kit ! xoxo

| That is a really nice and helpful thing to do!!...Out of four breeders only one did this and it was awesome!....She gave me a bag with goodies and a baby blanket and a little stuffed teddy, both with moms scent on it.... It's now four years later and he still sleeps with his blanky and teddy....The teddy is looking a little ragged now from all his chewing and humping....
