| Adding a male to my yorkies After a long hard thought about getting a male instead of using a stud. I went foward with my thoughts and went and bought a male after searching I found the right one. He is very sweet and he has been a daddy to two litters. he weighs 4 pds and is beautiful. I know he will mark his area and decide that everything is his. I also know that there needs to be much care while breeding. I have had two litters as well and maybe a 3rd. I wanted to take breeding to the next level. I love my yorkies and they are my family we have 3 girls for breeding and one 3 pounder that will not be used EVER because of course her size. Now I have this little boy that is humping or trying to all the girls, wait..... This one he got me on because I thought that they would only hump and let you know when the girl was ready? Now another thing I have read a lot on breeding but I havent found much on the male and his signs. My other two girls will not be in heat for another month or so, so I just want to get as much information as I possibly can. Can anyone give me anything that would be helpful for both the female and male that I should know now that I have a male that I might not have needed with just my girls. Thanks for any help and talk. | Congratulations on getting a new male. We would love to see pictures of him. First of all, males will hump females whether they are in heat or not. I am sure your male is doing it because they are new to him and he is just getting acquainted. Hopefully he will settle down and not do it all the time. The girls will most likely put him in his place. Have you had him to the vets since you got him? Since he has been used for breeding before it would be wise to get a brucellosis test on him and get everything else checked out. Are they all getting along well? Also, it would be a good idea to keep him in a separate area from the girls, at least some of the time because once they come in heat they will all need to be separated. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I have one stud male and one neutered male. I have heard all the horror stories of him (the stud male) marking territory and personality changes that happen. I have found this to be somewhat untrue in my case. I most only notice my stud male marking territory only when my female is in or near her heat cycle. Any other time, I don't have any noticeable problem with it. He has shown dominance over my neutered male only in chasing him away from my female when she was in heat. I think those issues are probably more of a problem when a person has more than one stud dog in the house?? My suggestion to you would be doors, baby gates, belly bands, and panties for the yorkies when the female is in heat..............and ear plugs and lots of patience for you! Congrats on your new guy & good luck!

| OH thank you all so much. Here is a picture of Paco and I just got him home today and he has an appointment with the vet tuesday. I amsl have a 13 year old Jack russel male that I keep from my girls I never had girl dogs before my yorkies so I never had him fixed and now the vet sais that he is too old, but we have went through several heat cycles and we have done very well by keeping them away. Now they are just peeing on each others markings that is sage and paco but the girls pee on each others as well so we have a circle of pee, hehe. He is great though. Now I have heard that you need to tuck them in after they breed sometimes they do not do this on their own and if it is not done they can have lots of problems. Is this correct? OK the picture upload sais that I have exceded the 200 kb so what do I do now? Now I need help with the photo part as well. I have posted pictures here before so I am not sure what the problem is. Oh and I so wanted to share him with you all. |

| I am assuming by 'tucking in' you are taking about the males penis that does not retract sometimes because the skin of the sheath gets folded inward preventing the penis to retract. Yes, that can be a problem. After each breeding you should check that. I have had that happen on males that were not being bred but were getting to overly excited from humping. |
