Question: Is This Labor? Emma is 49 days and I noticed a clear goopy discharge and she has become real lazy and has eaten very little today. I have noticed that most dogs seem to go between 55 and 60 days. the puppies seem to have dropped and her temp is 99.1 So my question is this the begining of labor or does she still have a few days?

I have noticed with my females them losing discharge up to 24 hrs before labor until labor. but not all are the same. I would give a quick call to the vet sence shes only 49 days, they really need to stay in there a little longer.

The clear gooey discharge is perfectly normal. The discharge will get more noticeable the further along she gets. I always keep the hair on the vulva trimmed short so it does not get so gummy. Some mommas get so fat they can't lick their vulva themselves to keep it clean so I make sure they are clean. You female should go at least 59 days from the 1st breeding in order for the pups to be fully developed. Any sooner than 57 or 58 days it would be hard for the pups to make it. Temperature drops that low are pretty common. If the momma has not eaten her blood sugar could be low and that could cause her to run a lower temperature. Usually the temperature will go up and down so it can be very frustrating trying to go by the temperature.

I have noticed the same thing with my Chloe, the only difference is she's 61 days along. I also noticed her bedding was wet last night which is really abnormal, can anyone offer any advice?
