| 2nd Heat Cycle - 4 Months After First How many of you have dogs that do this? Seems to me like Rhianna is going into her 2nd cycle . . .her first one was in February. I have noticed that Brody has started marking again the last couple days and sniffing her. She's also started doing the PMS thing which she did right before her 1st cycle. Wondering if this is the norm sometimes. We bought her at 6 months of age and the breeder said that she hadn't gone into her 1st heat and when we had her checked at my vet he also said the same. So her first heat was at 8 1/2 months old.

| i had one do this and I kind of figured she had a split heat the first time. Of course, I didn't breed her because she was still too young even tho it was her second heat. |

| Mine usually start bleeding at 9 1/2 months for the 1st heat. When a heat cycle is off, it's usually a harmonal thing. I would consider this 2nd one her 1st heat. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I had a female that had heat cycles every 4 months.....like clock-work. Thought that was odd, but I have read somewhere that it is possible.

| I have to say, I am sort of surprised . . .I truly didn't expect her to go into heat until August sometime, and even then, I wasn't going to breed her until her third heat . . . I think it's really odd that it is exactly 4 months to the day that she went into heat for the first time. Is it usually right to the day of previous cycles?

| I would watch her very closely. I had a cocker spaniel do this once and it turned out to be pyometra. An infected uterus will sometimes mimic a heat cycle when it first starts out. If she goes off her food or starts showing a temperature, get her to the vet immediately.

| Thanks. So far, she's been eating and acting fine . . .its not a pus like discharge at all . . .just looks like normal diplets of blood. . .no smell (trust me I smelled it) It's been 17 weeks since her 1st cycle, and as far as I can tell, this truly seems like a repeat of her first heat. But I will keep an eye on it.
