| vet said will be 7 or 8 pounds full grown so out of our Scooters first litter we have a rash of tinys .. not what I was hoping for so I sold A little girl this weekend since I knew she would be too small to show. our scale said she was almost two pounds at 13 weeks old .. From past experience and the dams last litter we know this will grow into a 3 to 4 pounds adult *we included bone structure* in our eval. The day the new mom gets the puppie she takes it to her vet .. who weighs the puppie in at 1.8 at 13 weeks and tells the new owner this tiny thing is going to be 7 or 8 pounds and that we dont know what we are talking about ...*Grumbling* needless to say I am quited confused on how a vet could get this from a tiny TINY little girl with tiny bone structure who comes from small parents and also am I wrong to tell the lady If she is that small bring her back .. I dont let them go to ..there new homes untill 2 pounds this is why I bought a postal scale along with watching there puppies weights

| A lot of vets give bad estimates on weights just like a lot of cops give bad legal advice. When did vets become breeders? When did cops become lawyers? |

| I'm not a breeder, but I just had to chime in with my recent experience. I use a veterinary hospital, so I can see one of 5 different vets depending on their rotation schedule (I have one that I really respect and that I request specifically for illness/injuries). Anyway, when I took Colby Tate in for his first vet visit the doctor looked him over and said (without my asking or prompting in any way) that Tater would probably be at least 9 pounds. I just smiled and nodded, as Colby was so tiny and has such tiny bone structure even an idiot could tell he was gonna be a tiny. On the next vet visit we had a different doctor. She said (again with no prompting from me) that she doubted he would make it to 3 pounds (he was only 3 ounces under three pounds at the time!). Little Tater is now almost 6 months and weighs about 3 1/2 pounds. I don't think most vets really have a clue on how to estimate adult sizes.

| When I took my little guy in for his check up the vet said that he would be 6-7 lbs. He is 4 1/2 lbs at 1 1/2 yrs. old. Your right I don't think that most vets know how to guage weight. And each litter/gene. pool are different. |
