Pedigree research, help please.

Someone was doing research on their pedigrees and I saved the information but I can't open the file where I put the information. Can anyone tell me where I go to research my dogs background? Sylvia

What are you trying to find in the old pedigrees ? About the breeders the dogs or both

i ordered a 4 yr generation pedigree for one of my females from AKC they told me it would take around 7 to 10 days well that time had past so i called them again told them i hadnt recieved it so they said they would send it again mind you i have already been billed for it well it has already been another week and still havent recieved it i will give them another week and if nothing comes i will call again i guess. they read my address back to me and it's correct. i know i can get it on line but it cant be copied is this correct? i kinda wanted a hard copy of it. is there some other way of searching for it?

Oh..if I was reasearching...I'd be curious of the dogs in the backgroud as to colors of the great grandparents etc...I find the history looking back interesting...

But..I'm not searching...

Just found Lady of Yorkies thoughts interesting.
I pretty much know all about the breeders from my pup...

If you can get the pedigree as a hard copy do it. The one you print off on their site is VERY hard to read and on multiple pages UNLESS they changed it since I printed it a year ago.

Kathy, I'm trying to find the owners to talk to them about Lady's background as it pertains to health and genetics. Like does LS run in her family. Lady is very healthy but her breeder didn't seem to know anything. I was new to Yorkies and assumed they were like other breeds. She was my second Yorkie and it was my second month owning Yorkies. I have contacted all of the other breeders and none of them have had any problems in their histories for at least 3 or more generations. I am aware that this doesn't mean there won't be a throwback but I feel safer with them than with Lady. I should probably call Lady's breeder and talk to her because at the time I bought Lady her breeder had just come out of the hospital after being there for a month. She seemed a little confused. I just have the feeling that I don't want to deal with her. Sylvia

Call the breeder. I have two old book from the years 1952 thru 1986. If you give me a sires' or dam's name I can tell you the number of champions they prodiced during that time period. Kinda fun to look at with the old pedigrees.

I have never been able to find one from 87 to current.

If you want to download a pedigree from the AKC website I think you have to have windows 2000 to be able to read it okay. How do you check to see if your dog has any possible genetic problems other than by asking the breeder?

That's just it. I have to find out who has the parents, grandparents and so on and then write or call them. Getting the addresses will be another search. LOL Sylvia

once you have your pedigree in hand call AKC help desk they will give you the name and address of the breeders listed on the pedigree but wont give the phone numbers ....once you have the name, city and state do a google search through googles phone directories. I have had great luck doing it this way...

by having your vet do bile acid and OFA testing.
