| My Princess has Fleas Hi All, I am obviously new here...the vet suggested I check out the site. I have found a wealth of information that I really appreciate. I have Princess Bella Da Mia who is about 34 days pregnant woooohooo!!! Sooooo exciting!!!! Her first and our first litter. We are expecting the Royal court to arrive July 2. We stopped her flea medicine ahead of breeding. We live out in the country and even though our other animals take their medicine the fleas have found a home on Bella. My Princess Bella Da Mia has fleas eeewwww! I am looking for home remedies for fleas on pregnant Princesses? I want to try and make her as comfortable as possible for the last bit of her pregnancay. We do see the vet soon but I want to get started asap. Thanks for any suggestions! ~Angela |

| Give her a dawn dish soap bath. Lather it up and leave it on 5 minutes before rinsing. I wouldnt use any type of flea prevention like frontline or advantage on a pregnant yorkie. Ive read that is dangerous

| i put advantage on a female yorkie one time and i flipped out so i called the vet who called the makers of advantage and that it was safe on pregnant females...that they use it on pregnant and lacating females in Europe and that it just hasnt been passed here yet..and she and her babies were perfect and i still use it..i think it works better then frontline here too but if you arent comfortable with that, then you need to clean what ever area is hers, i would say hot water and bleach everything, and wipe down everything, if its carpeted you need something to sprinkle in the carpets and give mommy a bath in the dawn, i think the dawn is supposed to sit for 5 minutes then rinsed good luk |

| Call me old fashion but I dont use any products for fleas and ticks. I use heartguard and the reg on at that. Dawn works great to kill fleas and ticks without putting lots of toxins in your Pet. |

| I appreciate all the tips. I will try the dawn dish soap today. I did hear Advantage was ok but I have also heard no flea medications are ok. Just like anything else with whelping puppies for every person that says to try something another person says dont try it. I am taking in all opinions and learning everything I can and going from there. I have learned a wealth of info here and appreciate ALL suggestions. THANKS! |

| Garlic and brewers yeast tablets are what I give mine and she hasn't had a problem since I started her on them. They're also supposed to be good for pregnant dogs. |

| I think you are smart in using the Dawn. I would not use Frontline, Advantage etc. on a dog that wasn't pregnant. Chemicals are horrible and killing our pets everyday. If you could have seen what Frontline did to one of our little schnauzers you would never use it again. I even hate giving them the heartworm pills but its almost a must. Good luck on getting rid of the fleas, they can be bad. Thank goodness we have never had a problem with them, but I went into the vets one day and he said he had given a dog a blood tranfusion from being infested with fleas. I always thought ticks were bad but never realized how bad fleas are and what they can do. |

That depends on your lifestyle and where you live. If you have your own yard and your dog goes there possibly Dawn will do it but if you walk your dog 4x daily on grass and they play with other dogs and deer and wild animals walk where you walk your dog Dawn won't do it. A flea protector is necessary. I would never be without one on Buddy. No way would I ever want them in my home or on him. | |
