First time breeding ????? Hello Yorkie Talk Family. My name is Monique and I am new to this site. I am the owner of to precious yorkies. I have Chanel (girl)who is 28 months and weigh 6 pounds Armani (boy)who is 24 months and weigh 4 pounds. I am breeding them for the first time. They went through all the required testing my the vet and they are fine and ready. Chanel is in her 10th day of heat and Armani keeps licking her although he hasn't tried to mount her. She dosen't seem to be flagging yet as I did the little test from Debbie Jensen website( running my finger down her back). How will I know when she is ready? When will he be intrested? They just seem to lay together and play together. How many days do I have before it's to late to mate them?

Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Most males would be showing a lot of interest by now. Sadly some males are just never interested in breeding. Hopefully this is not the case with your male. I would advise that you completely separate your male and female and only allow them to be together when you are there to supervise the breedings. Most females can get pregnant anywhere from the 8th day to the 21st day but the most fertile time is usually from the 11th through the 17th day of the heat cycle. Please keep us posted on how things are going.

I would just put them together one or two times a day for a little while and see how it goes. Best of luck.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. My little girl didn't start flagging till her 12th day of her cycle, and my little guy didn't show much interest till about that day as well. Some times they just aren't ready yet. Good luck to you! Let us know if we will need to be on puppy watch soon.

You would not x-ray at 20 days. He can do a ultrasound around 28 days. Best of luck to you.

Need opionions please I HAVE MATED MY DOG ONE TIME THAT I SAW. THAT WAS ON EASTER AT 6 PM. I TOOK HER TO THE VET AT 31 DAYS SINCE THE MATING AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FEEL ANYTHING AND DID A ULTRASOUND DIDNT' SEE ANYTHING. THE VET THAT DID THE ULTRA SOUND SAID SHE HAD NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE AND DIDN'T EVEN CHARGE FOR IT NOT KNOWING WHAT SHE WAS DOING. BUT SHE SAID SINCE SHE DIDN'T FEEL ANYTHING OR SEE ANYTHING SHE WASN'T PREGNANT. I TALKED TO ANOTHER VET PLACE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT AT 31 DAYS IT WAS TOO SOON TO FEEL ANYTHING AND WAY TO SOON FOR A ULTRASOUND. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHAT ANYONE KNOWS OR THINKS. SHE IS 5 POUNDS AND HE WAS 3 1/4 POUNDS FULL GROWN. SHE HAS THROWN UP 3 TIMES AND SEEMS TO EAT LESS AND SLEEPS ALOT. HER TUMMY IS STILL PRETTY TUCKED BUT ALITTLE PUFFY NOT MUCH. THANK YOU AND ANYTHING WOULD BE HELPFUL. YOU MAY EMAIL ME AT angelof7@sbcglobal.net if you like.

oh I didn't know that I must wait that long because my vet said twenty days but to be on the safe side I am waiting 30. Armani keeps sniffing and licking her even after they tied twice. Is that normal?
