| Im so upset My 5 lb female Chada went into labor and didnt seem to have a bit of trouble......I was there the whole time. She had a beautiful little girl with very little effort......a big sigh of relief...then she laid down with her and starting pushing periodically, just like normal for the next puppy and as they got stronger I put her little girl in the warmer and I noticed a new wet area on her papers so I examined her. She had two tiny little feet sticking out, no bag intact.......and she started pushing extremely hard at this point, so I had to help her by pulling the puppy, it took three contractions before we were successful and he was born not breathing. I tried everything to revive him, vigorous towell drying, cleaning his mouth, holding him upside down to drain the fluid, and tiny wisps of air over his mouth and nose for mouth to mouth and I couldnt save him. He was so handsome and looked filled out and externally healthy. He must have been in the birth canal for awhile, but she never really had close hard contractions until 5 minutes or so before I saw the tiny little paws, They were barely visible. This is one part of breeding that is heartbreaking. Im just sick about it. Has anyone else had a breech gone bad or lose a puppy similar in breeding? She did so well from the start I thought all would be ok, it just makes me so mad at myself because I was right there and missed this! Everything just seemed normal. I know this is part of breeding but Ill never get used to it. |

| Breeding Kelly, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of a new puppy. I bred my little 2 yr. old Foxy last year. I had never bred before and only did it for a friend so she could have one of her little male's baby. Well, Foxy ended up having 6 puppies!!!! She delivered with no problem and the puppies were fine. After about 2 days, Foxy became sick and I had to tube feed them around the clock. I lost one female puppy at 2 wks and that was a heartbreaker!! After all that work trying to keep them all alive and to lose one was almost to much to take. Foxy never did get better. Took her to Mich. State and they said that 6 puppies was to big of a litter for her and it ruined her liver. I lost her in Sept. after tons of trips to vets and exploritory surgery. I will never breed again. So don't blame yourself for things that you don't expect to happen. Sometimes, no matter how things are handled, they turn out with unfavorable results. Just be glad for the puppy you have and that Mama is doing fine. Foxy's Mom |

| Thanks for your reply, Im sorry to hear of your yorkies death. I am very thankful mommy is ok and we do have a baby girl, she appears fine too. I havent been breeding very long and my first litters went very well. I was so lucky all the babies were fine and mommies too. But this last round has been really hard. I just lost another baby who was born extremely tiny and just couldnt make it, and I have been supplementing another who is doing very well now. I knew this would happen, if you breed , its gonna happen but I havent been quite prepared for the grief it can bring. Last edited by luvdorkyyorkies; 02-12-2005 at 04:55 AM. |

| This is what I am SO afraid of. My Sadie Ann is due in about 3 weeks and this will be our first and ONLY litter. I am SO worried something like this will happen. I've spoken to my NEW vet about this (old vet is another story) and told her that I may be calling her when Sadie Ann whelps if I have problems and it could be anytime day or night. I have her cell phone number. She said that's fine....I may tell you to go back to bed...but that's fine. THIS worries me. That remark. I reminded her of the close to 4000 I spent on my little male and female...thinking the money factor MAY get her attention. Although money has NOTHING to do with it. I bought these two little darlings when they were small thinking I would start a small breeding business. But very quickly fell in love and do not care to breed. I bred this ONE time...and both male and female will be "fixed" after this. I will keep one pupply for mama and daddy to make a family. The rest I will have to sell..or perhaps just give to a good home. The GOOD home is what I want. I do think if people have to pay they will take better care of the animal. I have a question regarding puppy kibble for my Sadie Ann. She has been on Beneful dry food for over a year. I'm in a remote area and Walmart is the closest thing. What kind of puppy kibble should I get her? I know she should be eating that now as well as the other I'm feeding her. ANYBODY?

As you already know, the pup was prematurely seperated from the placenta..... My Tahlulah, now in the show ring. Was born exactly like that, however she did still have the cord attached and came through the vaginal opening on her back. (when I spoke to the vet he informed me that she was a true breech birth and the cord being attached was what saved her). Her litter mate brothers where born before she was.....total delivery from the onset of hard contractions was 3 hours. Therefore I named her "Mardelin's Miracle Waiting

Hi Mardelin Wow this is an old post, 11 months or so. SOunds like Tahlulah was a miracle baby! Unfortunately I wasnt so lucky but I learned from it. Now Im equipped with a flashlight if I cant see really well, practically standing on my head if I have too. SInce that time I have had more heartbreak but also some success in raising weaker puppies. Hope your girl is winning in the showring!!! But win or lose there she sure is a winner of overcoming her odds in her start in life. THanks so much for your post. | |

That litter was pretty much like yours......boys came, mom was a little crazy while in labor until the 2nd boy was whelped she settled down. Since no other puppies were felt in the birth canal, cleaned the whelping area, rinsed her off, covered the whelping area, leaving just a small area open so I could watch for the next couple of hours. Put the boys to her to nurse and was settled down, I saw her tail going up and down....there were Thalulah's hind legs. The wierdest thing is in her mother's recent litter, she had 2 boys and a girl and the girl came hind legs 1st too. However, this time she was born with the sac. Yes, Tahlulah is doing very well in the ring. I brought her out at 6 months of age and she pointed her 1st weekend out....and the next, and the next. She had a brief rest during the month of December. Brought her out again this weekend and she pointed again.....total of 6 points towards her Championship Mary
