Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Help? First off, please dont start off bashing me... Please. Macy is almost 6 months according to her papers... But according to the VET, she is 2-3 years old. So somehow, someone slipped her through a loophole with another litter. Im a little ticked off at that. Well, moving on. We adopted Thom 3 weeks ago. I didnt notice anything until last week with their behavior, he was trying to mount her. I stopped it and separated them until now. Thinking she was 6 months... i really didnt think much of it. Moving to now! Macy has gained 1lb in the last 3 weeks... And is licking herself like crazy... No swollen nipples, but a swollen tummy, eating like crazy... She has a TOTAL food fettish, will not let thom eat until she is done. He backs off and waits... So my question is... Could she be pregnant?? And how would i know?? I had totally prepared to keep these two separated through her heats... I have family willing to help. We were still waiting her FIRST heat, but apparently, shes already HAD her first..

| OMG!!! You must be so shocked, upset, and stressed! This isn't good! I guess that you best get Macy off to the vet and find out for sure hey? I'm so sorry you have gotten this "not so welcomed" surprise. Just deal with it the best that you can ok? That's about all that you can do!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Very stressed! Very upset with Macy's breeder. But no matter what, i love her... So we shall deal with whatever is going on! I have a vet visit Tuesday to feel her belly, hoping they can tell something by then, im not sure! Its tight and round for sure!! And shes a grumpy baby!!! It just hit this week. She growls at him for everything!!! Toys, food... Very snappy! I guess a typical pregnant "person". But boy oh boy, i wasnt ready for this for a few YEARS!

| How big is Macy? If that's her in your avatar she looks very small and Thom is 8 to 9 pounds. Are you sure they tied? How old is Thom again? The females can get very cranky when they are coming into heat. Your Macy could just be coming into heat. Seperate your dogs and call your vet to see what advice they can give you. Maybe you should have them spayed and neutered to prevent accidents in the future. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Macy is now 5.5lbs.. We had plans of breeding them separately in the future, but then again, i had no idea that she was this old. I know heats can be hardly noticeable after a while... I did not witness a tie, but i have been working alot lately, leaving them in hubby's care... And well, I really dont know. Thom is almost 8 months, and weighing right at 8lbs today. I was just asking if these were symptoms.. DH is military, and has only been home for a bit, otherwise i would have been at home watching them myself.

| If she is registered, I would at least start by reporting this breeder to the AKC or whatever she's registered with, we don't need breeders like this to be allowed to register more animals this way, they may get suspended. You may have to get a report made from you vet to report this legitamately. Next, just find out if she is pregers, then go from there, and discuss it w/ your vet. If Thom is that much larger it will probably be a problem, which you should never breed them together if they are that different in size, it would be too dangerous. I would deffinitely report this person, they obviously have no respectable practices going on over there. I imagine if you can't tell the difference between a 6 month old dog and a 2 or 3 years old dog then you don't know enough about Yorkies to be breeding at this time, Don't mean to sound rude, but that's what I think.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Well, im now starting to question the vet. She DOES not look 2-3 years old to me at all... Her first vet never questioned the age on the papers, and we are taking her back there today to confirm. We had taken the pups to a vet closer by yesterday for Thom's shots. She is still loosing baby teeth and her hair is still changing... Ill find out for sure with our regular vet today, and find out if anything happened between these two. I dont intend to breed these two together, especially with the size difference and the fact that they are two different breeds Ill hop back on once we are done at the vets! Wish me luck!

It's likely she is going into heat....and both of your animals are old enough to reproduce. You need to keep them totally seperated.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Update I took Macy back to her normal vet today to confirm age and possibility of pregnancy. She is in fact only 6 months old, as i thought. I have NO idea why the other vet thought she was so old The increased appetite is a growth spurt! She has doubled her weight in 3 months! We got an ultrasound done, since he said she didnt seem pregnant. And no puppies! He said he doubts that she has gotten into heat yet. But with her new "grouchy" attitude, to keep an eye out for any swelling or bleeding, as she could be pretty close to it! She weighed in at 5.5lbs! And Thom at just under 8lbs! So after all the misleading information from yesterday's vet, everything is fine! We are keeping a hawks eye on her, and have arrangements for thom for when Macy goes into heat! Im sooooo relieved!

| Whew! Crisis over! That could have been a close one. Glad you went back to your other vet. I looked at pics of your girl and she sure looks puppy-ish to me. Anyway .... since she is at the age when a heat can come any time, I hate to tell you but you really should not leave them together when no one is there to watch them. I know that is very inconvenient when you work, and they probably already love being together. But, heats (especially first heats) are not always that noticeable. Sometimes they are so clean, you never see any blood. You might miss the start of heat and then a tie could happen while you were at work. So, you might want to crate or at least secure in different rooms. I know, probably not what you want to hear. But better safe than sorry. Course there is another solution, you could spay or neuter one or both. BTW what breed is Thom?

Thom is a Biewer. We have no plans on breeding them together, so we will stick with this until we find out when she goes into heat, and then my father will be watching Thom for a bit until it passes! Im waiting on fixing them for now, we may eventually breed them to others in their breed... But they still have much growing to so and shows to attend first!
