| what is the average cost of a c-sect...my hubby picked her up and did not ask any questions, like cost and how to know if the pup is toooo BIG . this is only my second litter...also she got pregnant without a tie...I brought her to the breed 2x and they never tied...then breeder notified me 3 weeks ago that one of her girls was pregnant and they never tied either...and she told me to keep an eye on her for pregnancy and sure enough she was...i did not expect this...pregnant and one pup too. I notified her that she was preg with one pup. Contract states that i pay when there is a tie...but there was not but i feel like she deserves to be paid something for she is having A pup now...what i do with that???? |

| You know, Im not for sure but I have heard over 500 dollars reg vet charges but if at ER it could run over 2000 dollars. That why I think you should schedule this also you dont want to loose your female. Im surprised your vet did'nt mention this to you... |

You may have no choice but to pay the stud fee because if you dont the owner of the stud may refuse to sign the litter registration paper making it impossible for you to register the puppy. Besides, in most contracts, one puppy constitutes a litter. Best of luck with the up-coming delivery. Hope everything turns out fine.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | The females determines how many pups they have. I would pay the fee. I had to pay the stud fee and then have a csection. Had alot in the pup but that goes with breeding. My girl tied 3 times and still only had one.

| I would also consider talking to your vet about what he thinks yu should do. If there is a good chance for a c-section, I would just schedule it because that would cost a lot less than an emergency one. Also talk to your stud owner, tell him you have only one, that you may need a c-section, and that the contract states "w/ a tie' , and I can't imagine someone charging an arm and a leg in that situation. I know the lady I worked with would never take all my money if it was just one and a c-section was needed, she probably is hoping you will work with her again in the future. You could come up with a price you think is fair for the situation and tell her what you would like and then let her think about it and you 2 can work something out. Talk to your vet first, and get a price for an emergency c-section, and then a scheduled one and you will know better what you want to do. An x-ray will tell you a lot about the size of the pups frame, but if he is really fat too I am not sure you could see that on an x-ray. Keep us posted. P.s. before I bred w/ my stud (owned by someone else) we went over the scinerios,, such as if there was only 2, would she still want the 2nd, she said no, she didn't want to be that controlling over my litter. She was to get a female pup if there was 2, but I just had 4boys and 1 girl (which I stated I wanted to keep the first girl before hand) and so there was a second agreement that I would give her 400 dollars if there was no 2nd girl to give to her. That is fair to me considering I have 5 pups, but with one you would think that 100 or 200 dollars should be the max. (just my opinion) But if she does demand the full payment, I would say to honor it, I just can't imagine someone being that greedy

| I disagree about scheduling a c-section. If she were a first timer I would agree but she has a better chance of delivering since this is a second pregnancy. It depends a lot on your relationship with your vet also. I would talk to him asap and see what he thinks |

| I have had a number of 1 pup litters over the years and one did result in a c-section after labor started and is was obvious she was not dilating enough to pass the pup but mom and pup were just fine. I have heard a number of times that the vet cannot really judge the size of the pups from an x-ray. A lady I know was told by her vet that the pups would be big so she scheduled a c-section and the pups turned out to be small and the female would have been able to deliver them normally. This same lady did a scheduled c-section on another bitch and the vet took them too early and the pups died. My personally opinion is that I would never do a scheduled c-section but I would make sure I had a vet available in case a c-section was necessary. Whether you have one pup or 6 pups, I feel that you got the services of the ladies stud and it resulted in a pregnancy. Whether it was in inside tie or outside tie should not have anything to do with it. On the few rare occasions I have studded out my male I charged a $300 stud fee, regardless of the number of pups. Also, it is possible she could have the pup a little sooner than you think. I have had singleton pups come on day 59 and 60 but I have also had one come on day 70 from the first breeding. I pray everyone goes well with the whelping. Please keep us posted. |

| My only thing is what if she goes on the weekend and ER Vets cost $$$$. My friends did and she ended up paying close to 3000 dollars. Yes no matter how many I agree she owes the Stud fee... |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I agree. I had a first time bitch with a singleton and she didn't have a section, just needed a shot of Oxi to get her out. My vet also tells me the xray really isn't going to tell me the pup size so I now just get them for a count, so I've been told the same thing. You never know she could pass this baby, I personally would let her start labor and see and have the vet on call just in case. Maybe you could discuss this with him before hand? If she struggles an oxi shot could do the trick too and not a c section. Good luck with your whelp!!! Please keep us updated! Quote:

On the xrays they do look big they have the horn all to themselves to stretch out in. I have had a puppy look huge in the xray to turn out to be a normal 4 oz puppy | |
