| I have a Question about Females I have a Male and Female Yorkie both over a year. My female had her first heat at six months. A few weeks ago I baby sitted My daughters dog a English bull dog that was just coming out of heat. Well it got my male Yorkie all crazy. He would smell her and then run to mate with my Female Yorkie who was not in heat.and she would set down and growl , Then one day she let him. well I asked a few breeders and they told me she had to be in heat B/C she wouldent of let him , and that some times you cant tell that the females are in heat. I watch mine closely and they are with me almost 24/7. I took them both to the vets and he did a swab test on her. and said no she is not in heat. and that some times if a male is around another female who is, they will do that. He didnt really say why she was letting him. My self I think they was playing and he surprised her. well Then they both got really sick. I think they picked some thing up at the vets. They are better now and The male is again trying to mate with her. Some times she growls and some times she just stands there. I have been putting a belly band on him . well The other night he got the band off and when I got up they was again stuck. She should of come in heat in Aug but didnt. I think with him messing with her. it has messed her up and now she will miss her normal heat. any one know? I could sure use some advise on this. I hate to keep them seperated all the time. they grew up together and dont do to well apart. Sorry this is so long . But wanted to say every thing that was going on. I hope they get to feeling better. Maybe she was in heat and she didn't bleed any I know this does happen. Just keep an eye on her. Does she look swollen? If she was in heat and she becomes pregnant, she will stay swollen and her nipples and breast area will get bigger. At about 4 weeks after they got together you can take her to the vet and they can do an examination to see if she is pregnant.

| I know I have talked to so many breeders and they have all told me they have never heard a female letting a male unless they are in heat. Thats why I decided to take her in to get checked. her nipples are not swollen . They did her first heat. but no not now .she is a little swollen below. But the vet said this was b/c The male had got her. I really dont know what to do with them I hate keeping them apart. It was different having to keep them apart when she was in her first heat. But they want to play and be together .But I know if I let them It will happen again. |

I don't know if it would have messed it up or not. I'm not that familiar with it, I'm sorry. I didn't know that 2 dogs could get together if the female wasn't ready. I've always been told that they are not ready until the 2nd week. That is exactly when Mollie was receptive. She just had puppies almost 6 weeks ago.

I would keep them separated until he no longer shows interest in her. Of course this is just my opinion. I'm surprised that she is not eating him up. When Mollie was receptive she would put her butt right in front of Riggs' and then after they were finished he still wanted to but she would growl and bite him on the ears and just sit down.

| One minute she is growling at him and he backs away then a few minutes later he tries again and she starts backing up to him. |

She very well could be in heat. I'm no expert. But the only time I've ever known a female to stick her butt in a males face is when they were in heat or getting ready to come into heat.

| What are they doing now? This post is a bit old BUT I just wanted to say that I have seen females back up to males and even tie when they were not in heat. I would suggest that you keep them apart til he stays away from her AND then learn the symptoms of a female in heat. It sounds as if you are unsure how to check her and tell if she is in heat and that would be a really good thing for the owner of intact female and male should know..The alternative is to have them altered... |

I do know when a female is in heat. and I said that she was not in heat. But everyone kept telling me she was or she would not be letting him. well I still said she was not in heat. and thats why I took her to the vet to have the swab done.I know what got them acting this way also, it was the female bull dog that was around. But even after the bull dog was gone they still tried Now for an update. they are back to normal and no longer trying to mess around. |
