| What is a silent heat? I am curious and I thought that maybe some of us might be having them and not knowing it. Sylvia |

Sorry I can't be of any help. Never heard of it. This is something I would also like to know.

| My vet says a silent heat is when your female goes through her first cycle and she has no blood and shows no visible signs of an active heat cycle.

| Well, I wonder if Lady is doing that. When your vet says "shows no visible signs of an active heat cycle," I am supposing that includes swelling. She hasn't bled but she is swollen. I know Pirogue is very interested but Mr. Big appears to still be too young. Sylvia |

| The vet said that they don't particularly have to bleed in order to be in heat. We spoke about this yesterday because I have a friend that has a yorkie and she is 14 months old and has not had a visible cycle but still at some point she did have it. Sounds strange but thats what happened.

| Silent heat is when the dog goes into heat and the owner doesn't know it (some dogs are better at hiding it than others, some don't display prominent outward signs, and some owners aren't perceptive enough or experienced enough to recognize it.) |

Both YorkieRose and I have had females that Certainly did NOT have a heat cycle til after a year of age. These Yorkie females seem to have a reproductive cycle all their own.. |
