My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I need your ideas Breeders I keep all my girls in a room made just for them. Am I foolish to think they would get along forever? Now that my girls are all of breeding age, things are changing. I seriously just had the worst fight I ever had, and it started with 2, and then the rest went at it. I could not get them apart. I was shaking and screaming so bad. I don't know what stopped it but I got everyone apart. They have a huge room, with beds and pee pads and thats where they stay when I'm not home and at night. Any ideas? I mean I hate the idea of kennels. I've never used them. I thought of figuring out a way to make their own "stales"? Gosh I just don't know, I hate the thought of it but I think I need to change something. To what, I just don't know. Any ideas? These girls are my family and the thought of them getting hurt just breaks my heart. |

| Sounds like you had a Yorkie frenzy. I've had it happen too, and it's always the girls. I have two in particular that seem to compete for which one is the alpha female. They get along great most of the time, but once in a while all hell breaks loose. Then, like you said, the others join in. When mine get like that, it can be tense between them for a week or so then it settles back down. I think it's a hormonal thing but not directly in sync with their heat cycle. Everyone's situation is different, but I just keep an eagle eye on mine at those times. I'm usually home but wouldn't leave them together if I was gone. They really can kill each other. If you know which ones are the instigators, maybe you should keep them separated when you're gone. Sorry I can't give you any real advice but I do sympathize with you. We think of them as our babies but sometimes the 'dog' comes out in them. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Aw Brenda, I am so sorry to hear about the trouble you witnessed. I know first hand how awful it is to see them viciously fighting with each other, though my experiance was with just one female towards another. I remember all to well having to pry her mouth open to release the hold she had. I've read of some breeders separating the pack 24-7 by baby gates; I tried it....it will work, but isn't alot of fun. I wish you the best of luck with your situation.......for the safety of your precious babies and for you peace of mind. Hugs.

| breny, i had two that fought in my dog room and I put them both out to run the house. that stopped the fights. both females. I know another breeder on here that had one of my pups and she left one day to go to the store. came back and one of the smaller ones was nearly dead. Rushed it to the vet where it died. One or two were scared to death and one was sitting in the corner with blood all over it. don't know for sure which one started the fight but evidently, when one did, they all jumped in and killed the ddog. That's what mostdogs do when they get a taste of blood. You better try to figure out something. Not trying to scare you just stating facts and those breeders that say they have never had a fight, just wait, it will happen. i always used to boast that mine never fight. I have had to break up some pretty mean fights and figure out different things to do to stop or prevent. |

| Breny, my girls are always getting into scuffles and I hate it. I have an x-pen in the living room for timeouts. My only suggestion is to get some tall x-pens and setup them up in the dog room. Often the fighting is just temporary if one of the females is in heat or coming into heat. Best of luck to ya. |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Oh you have hit it on the nail for sure. I never leave them together when I leave or at night, I have one instagater who I seperate, but now I have another it looks like. Ugg. Mine get along too like yours BUT, every so often, like you said, all hell breaks loose. I have to figure out how to make everyone happy without having to put anyone in a kennel. I just don't like kennels. Quote:

| My two girls, had always gotten along very well, until a couple of months ago. They can't be around each other at all anymore, they go right for the throat. We have had to literally pry them apart, and one time it was so bad that we had to put them under the faucet to separate them! It breaks my heart, because they are both my babies and they used to love each other and sleep all curled up together. Now, I spend my time stepping over the gate from the kitchen to the living room dividing up time between them!! Good luck to you!!

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Thanks Dee. Ya I used to think my girls would get along forever. Well I know I have had issues with 2 of them so I am going to have to come up with different living arrangements. I never leave the house with the 1 with the others, I know it only takes a second. I was shaking so bad! Quote:

| Sounds like you have a female going into heat, I never thought I would have problems out of mine either, but when they go into heat it changes everything, I always keep the one going into heat up in a different room lock up because of the boys, diapered and bellyband & gated, I don't trust those little suckers at all, but it helped with my girls, they will growl once in awhile but never have the big fights until the heat starts.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I am sorry to hear this.....you put slit of work in your room and now to think about changes. I have had this happen with two males........everything was fine for a few months and then something changed and the fought one night and from then on it only got worse.....after months of kennels - full time separation including a potty breaks...I gave up and the other male went back his breeder. The final breaking point was when I ended up with several bites trying to pull one if them away from a gate where the could only see each other. As I have brought in more females I have worried about this happening.....but we just made it through two in heat at one time. If you must do something - try xpens instead of kennels - that is what I use when I go to work. Good luck.....I know you will find something that works for your home.

| My girls get into some big fights but luckily so far they don't draw blood. I have had some females in the past that would get serious about fighting and draw blood and I would just keep them away from the other females once they start acting that way. It is not worth the risk. |
