Default Indiana House Bill 1468

Indiana House Bill 1468 is going to the Floor for a vote in the Senate Committee. Read this bill all of the way through. This Bill will affect all breeders selling more than 5 puppies per year. This is the is being lobbyied as a Puppy Mill Bill, but it will also affect all dog breeders. I posted this previously, but obviously not properly, so here is the direct link to the Bill. Please read it all, and then all breeders in Indiana contact your represenatives immediately!!

Go to American Kennel Club - akc.org, then click Legislation...There you will find the links to help fight this bill

Just curious~why would anyone want to have more that 1 liter of puppies per year unless it was for profit? Have you ever driven through Indiana to see all of the shacks off of the highways on the Amish Millers farms? It makes me sick to know what is inside of those long low white buildings. The suffering and misery that ANY animal that other so called religious folks own. Amish mills are Indiana's dirty little secret and they need to be stopped and if hard legislation is what needs to be done them so be it.

We have to get our show dogs somewhere. So we breed our own. Sometimes it takes more than one litter in one year to get a show potential puppy. Maybe we have an opportunity to breed to a certain stud and we breed more than one female. Last year I didnt even breed a litter. This year I hope to breed 3 litters. I certainly dont make a huge profit by doing this. And I dont feel like I am a "commercial" breeder either.Nor should I be labeled as one with this poorly written legislation.
I have never even been to Indiana. I am sure it must be horrible knowing what is probably in those buildings. We have our problems in Az too. Where you have mills, we have tons of bybers. One byber in Tucson had 800 dogs in their mobile home. That is probably our biggest mill. We were also the hardest hit in the housing economy and people are loosing their homes right and left. Alot of their pets are ending up in shelters or they move and just leave the dog locked in the house only to be found weeks later dead. Its all so over-whelming.

I personally do not live in Indiana but we are right on the boarder of IL and IN and have driven down the highway and can see these horrible places. You will see the Amish men in the fields with their horse or cow tending their land. I have seen and heard stories how they treat their animals, no water beating them to do their work it is a nightmare. I personally do not know what the answer is to this problem but some type of regulations need to be in place to stop what is going on.

My Bogey is a cast off from a breeder in IN. He was found on the side of the road dragging his leash behind him, malnourished, matted from head to toe wandering, his nails grown into his paws. The shelter is sure he came from a mill or breeder in the area that he was found. It happens all the time. The shelter have gone so far as to have an area that dogs can be dropped off over night.

You are correct when you say the economy is horrible. I live in Chicago and it is not much better here either. I understand that you show and look for a show hopeful and breeding would be the only way to continue to show. I am wondering now if you worried with the economy falling apart will you will be able to sell the puppies? People have cut back on so much I don't know if they have the money to even afford pets any more.

IMO we are living in a very dark and scary time in this country.

I have a waiting list. And I do not charge 5 arms and 10 legs for my puppies either. I am more interested in a loving for-ever home for them.
Sometimes I think the country is going to H*ll on a bob-sled! The economy will turn around eventually.

That is more than reasonable. Did you see the post about the yorkies in an xpen on the side of the road. The woman had 1 litter that was 8 months and had a second when the first didn't sell. How horrible it that!

Default I live outside the amish community

Not all of the long barns you see are puppy mills but the ones that are, are bad, Not all amish people do not love their animal either. Just like not all breeder are bad. This bill that is getting ready to go before the senate is not going to stop this it is only going to hurt the honest people who have the one to two litter a year. You really need to read the bill completly. I love my Yorkie and I live in Indiana I have had 1 liter this year and may have one more out of a different female. Her name is Markie and my other dog is Annie. They sleep with me every night. This bill does not just effect Yorkie breeder you need to look at the big picture. The person who has a large dog, German Shepard, Collie, Rottewiller will not even be able to have one litter. More then 5 puppie being sold is against the law according to this bill. I know everyone who has bought a Yorkie had paid good money for their furbabies if everyone has to just give a way puppies what do you think will happen then. If they dont like them to the pound they will go. Please this bill has good parts but it has alot of bad parts to read it tell your senator to vote no they need to do one for commercial breeder but selling 5 puppies is not commercial by any means.
