| Puppy is only eating a little Yesterday Alex ate pretty good but this moring he just turned his nose up at everything I gave him. He will only eat about a tsp. I tried his, wet food by it self, wet food with dry food, dry food with water in it, baby rice cereal, apple sauce and cottage. Is there anything else I can feed him -- he doesn't have any teeth yet so it will have to be something soft. At what age do their baby teeth come in -- he is 6 weeks old. Can I get the puppy milk from Wal-mart and give him some of that. I tried the honey and water and he turnes his nose up at it. He is active loves to play and sleep. He got up one time last night to go. Any Advise Please! The only store I have access to today is Wal-mart! He only takes about 2 bites and he is done -- I would like him to eat alittle more. Thanks Ladies -- You are the best!

| I am so sorry your baby is not eating. Your puppy was taken away from his momma too early. Are you sure he is 6 weeks old? Most puppies have teeth by then but I have heard of a few exceptions. It is so important that you get your puppy to eat or he could get hypoglycemia and die. Do you have any nutri-cal on hand? If not you can give him a little karo syrup and water. What type of dry food are you feeding him? You can give him some of the puppy formula from Wal-mart. Also buy several cans of the Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food. Take your dry puppy food and grind it in a blender until it is real fine like corn meal. Leave him out a bowl of this dry food along with a bowl of water. You can also try taking a tiny amount of the ground up dry food and mixing it with the Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food, just add enough to make it a little moist. I do not recommend giving the puppy a lot of different things. You puppy has to adjust to the food and if you keep giving to many different things it will upset the puppies stomach. How are the puppies stools? You have to make sure the puppy does not get diarrhea or icky poops. If he does then he will need to see vet right away. Make sure the puppy in confined to a smaller area where he can get to his food and water. I recommend keeping them in a small exercise pen. Please keep us posted on how he is doing. |

| I got him some purina one and smashed it up real fine and put a little warm water and he ate it up! He has honey in his water (the vet told me to do that) I give him Nutral-Cal a couple of times a day (vet told me to do that too.) He has no problem with the bathroom all that is good! I guess maybe this morning he was just sleepy. So for the rest of the day he has been eating, drinking, playing and sleeping. Thank Yall very much!

| I am so glad baby is doing much better. Just a word of caution about the honey. My vet always told me to give honey and water too but after joining YT I found out that honey can contain a lot of bacteria and actually make your puppy sick. It happened to one of my puppies that I was giving honey and water to so I quit doing that. I just use Nutri-cal or karo syrup and water. I hope your baby continues to do well. |

| Thank you for that I had no idea! I have to run to walmart today and will pick up some Karo -- How much of it do you put in his water. He eats about 1/4 cup a day -- is that good or do I need him to eat more? Hugs

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | A couple of teaspoons for a 6-week puppy is good, and probably the amount they should be eating. You should have food out at all times; this is called free feeding. Since their tummies are small and can't hold much, frequent feeding is important. If you give too much Nutri-cal it will inhibit the appetite, instead of stimulating it. Karo syrup is pretty much the same as Nutri-cal, or honey, but like bhj said, is safer than honey, use the same amount as you did of the honey. When the puppy weighs 2 pounds you can probably eliminate the Karo syrup from the water. Don't add too many new foods, as this can cause tummy upsets, and diarrhea.

| I think a 1/4 of a cup a day for a 6 weeks old puppy is pretty good. How much does your puppy weigh? As long as your baby is eating good he will not need any karo or nutri-cal. I only give that if they are picky eaters. The karo in water is also good if they are having a little constipation problems. If you feel he needs the karo then I would just add like a 1/2 tsp. to a cup of water. One thing I would recommend is getting a better quality food. Purina-One has too much grain in it. I would recommend something like Chicken Soup Puppy or Solid Gold Wee Bits. You can go to this website to review the different dog foods. Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost I would recommend going with a 5 star dog food. I feel that some of the 6 star foods have too much protein in them for a tiny puppy. The most important thing is that he is eating 3 or 4 times a day. Are you leaving out the ground up dry food? He needs to have access to that at all times. Mine have always done great with a tiny bit of the Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food mixed with the ground up dry food. I have always had some puppies that just prefer the dry food over the moist food so I always offer them both. I hope you baby continues to do well. |

| He is 1.9 lbs. He eats the wet 3 to 4 times a day and I leave the dry down all day for him and he eats some of that to. I went and got the karo and put just a little in his water. He seems to be doing great -- just waiting for his little teeth to come in -- I checked this morning and where his K9's are it is very hard. I have a little toy dog bone and I put it in the freezer and he loves to chew on it and a wet wash cloth, so hopefully it want be long. I guess he just needed some adjustment time he is eating even better today. He is so sweet he slept with me last night -- He wanted nothing to do with his bed. I didn't get much sleep but I just want to make sure he feels secure. Thanks Hugs

| Update on Alex! He ate all of his food last night before bed and again this morning. After he eats he plays a little goes drink water and eats a little dry then he is ready for a nap. Thanks to you all for the wonderful advise -- I'm not so worried anymore he seems to being doing great since I blended the dry puppy food -- he loves it now. Hugs
