whelping question? What is a good supplement to give my bitch during whelping to help keep her strenght up? Also, one for newborn puppies? I read a thread before about this, but can't remember what was mentioned. I have a little girl who I just brought home from the breeders and would like to start collecting information for when the time comes. Also, where do you purchase these products? Thanks!

I always keep Nutri-cal on hand and I give the momma some during whelping. For the puppies I don't usually give them anything unless I have a weak puppy and then I give them a drop of Nutri-drops. I buy most of my supplies from Revival Animal Health. There is lots of good information on YT about whelping and supplies needed. Just start going through the breeders section and you will find so much valuable information. Good luck with you litter.

My breeder swears by vanilla icecream. She learned about it at a Yorkie breeding seminar I believe held at last years roving specialty. Apparently the calcium and sugars are supposed to help with the contractions and give the mom the energy during whelping. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | yes, I Did, I joined a breeders group while my Taffy was pregnant and I needed to learn fast what to do, they suggested Vanilla ice cream, whelping pudding or nutri cal. Also they suggested that during the second stage of labor to give her some Red Rabsberry leaf tea with karo syrop. I used the whelping pudding and the tea with great results.. hugs, CArmen in nj |

Thanks guys for all the info. This is my second litter, but my little girl only comes into heat once a year, so can't remember beyond the nutrical what I gave her. Also, wanted to know if there was anything new that I should be doing. She is 7 lbs. and had 4 babies last year without any problem. Daddy is 3.5 lbs. I kept one of the little boys and he is gorgeous at 4.5 lbs. Hope that this litter is as nice. Praying that she is prego.
