| pre-heat question... I just wanted to know from you breeders a little more about heat cycles. When you have a bitch that is showing signs of coming into 'season', when do you notice that the stud, or any male dog begins to take an interrest in her? (such as: only when she is in standing heat, or before that, like when she is getting puffy, or even when she's bleeding but not in standing heat) I have a female who is getting swollen and I am presuming pre-bleeding, and if I cannot pinpoint to the day when she begins bleeding then I was wondering if you can just let a male tell you when. (My male is a 100 pound mutt and I am sure he will soon show interrest, but does that mean she's bleeding?) P.S.-Don't worry, I am not going to be breeding the 100 pound male to her! |

| Hey girl! I'm not sure the exact definition of "interest" but here is some information for you. Believe it or not a dog will "smell" the season coming on - (males and females) before signs will show up, visually. Once you see signs the male will normally keep her cleaned up even if she does a good job of that herself. When i bred Min Schz I had males that would try to ride during the first week of the heat but they (females) would not allow it. It's not alot of information but I hope it helps a little with your question.

| FYI: Dogs can smell the season coming on up to 2 weeks prior to onset!

| I have one male that lets me know before my girls actually go into heat, something is up. My males will sniff and check things out and thats it until she is flaging or standing for them.

| Yeah, I almost want to say I noticed something about a week and a half ago, exept I didn't see the sweeling and thought I was not accurate yet. But today she is quite swollen and acts funny with my pomeranian while they play, something is just off. I am sure this is it now. |
