| What Do You Feed Your Pregnant Yorkie? What do you feed your pregnant yorkie? When during the pregnancy do you recommend giving cottage cheese and how much cottage cheese daily would you feed a 5 lb Yorkie(pre pregnancy weight). I know you do not want to give too much calcium to them when they are pregnant, but have heard of some giving in very late pregnancy. I would love to see what others feed their pregnant yorkies!

| My pregnant bitches get the same as all my others, dry Canidae All Stages of Life dog food with a little Pedigree chopped chicken mixed in. The last couple weeks I mix in a little dry Chicken Soup Puppy food. I have never had a pregnant female that went off her food. After she has pups then I add a little hard boiled egg or cottage cheese to their food, along with their Healthy Bones calcium supplement. |

| Question what is the purpose of giving egg or cottage cheese yes, I know for calcium but how much extra & when to start & stop?? I heard & read that you should give such things like cottage & egg however to stop feeding the enriched calcium foods approx 10 days prior to the arrival as well as while in labor to give them again cottage & or egg which helps them with contractions????? Any one know the right answer?? |

| Before I breed my ladies, I have blood work drawn...CBC, lytes, etc. I like to know all is well....you need to know where you are, so you know where to go, if anyplace. I start my ladies on Royal Canin HT 42-D, from the first day of Estrus until day 42 of gestation. Then I switch to Royal Canin Pro Mini Starter, from Day 43 until the babies are born and reach 8 weeks of age....if she is still nursing them, I will continue giving it to both momma and babies....then I graduate to Pro mini puppy until the babies are a year old...that is what they go to new owners on, and HOPEFULLY, they LEAVE them on it. Momma goes back on RC Yorkie Adult.... I routinely do blood work on momma, in order to insure we are hitting our necessary levels on ,ytes....I give 1/2 cup canned salmon twice a week, as you get more calcium for your punch in salmon...also broccoli.... But I ALWAYS have calcium you give by mouth...chicken flavored...for emergencies....this stuff can save a dogs life if she starts having symptoms of eclampsia, before you get to the vet with them...it will keep them from progressing into seizures......
