Default mara's temp is low

mara had 4 girls on the 11th, we could not get the first one out, so we rushed to the vet and although she was alive, she did not make it..two girls were born right away, then we waited 4 hours at the vet.. they could not feel what was going on, so did an xray.. it showed the baby came down one horn and began to go up the other.. a c section was done but baby did not make it..
Mara on monday night was showing signs things were not ok.. so tuesday we went to the vet... her temp was 100.9 and she was given fluids and her temp went up to 102.9 right away... the next day she had to have more fluids.. she has been offered whelping pudding and does not want it.. she eats a bit of puppy food with ceaser.. ya not good but will take it.. and not much at one time.. I have given her yogart, cottage cheese,. even water she is still taking it from a syringe from me..
right now I saw her panting again.. it is not over hot at this time.. and her temp is back down to 100.5
should I be worried right now.. any breeders online... I can take her to the vet again possibly for more fluids in the am... anne

mara's temp is down again to 100.5 that is what it was when they gave her fluids.. as soon as they did, he went back up right away to 102.9
should I be worried.. I think I am going to take her back in for fluids again in the morning.. I hate to think of her going backwards again.. I can hardly sleep at nights... anne

Anne, how frustrating that is. I don't know what could be causing this.

Aw, poor little girl!! I would take her back in to the vet, always best to be on the safe side.
It sounds like she may have an infection that she could have gotten from a puppy or from having the c-section. The low temperature, panting, and low fluids sounds like an infection which isn't that uncommon when a c-section or spay is done.
I would talk it over with your vet, she may need some medication to fight off the infection if that is what is going on. There is obviously something going on with her.

Since you are already syringe feeding her water, try pedialyte instead. It will help hydrate her better and help her electrolytes. Plus they usually like the taste of it.

I hope you and your vet can figure it out and she starts feeling better soon!!

what is pedialyte what is it and where do I get it... yes she should have had fluids as soon as she had the c section.. and having two doses of fluids already.. my thinking infection also.. but they did not give her anything.. she has fluids on tuesday and wednesday and then held good... I am posting this on my thread also... thanks for replying... anne

Pedialite is a fluid made for babies (human) that is similar to Gatorade. You can get it in any drug store or most grocery stores.

thank you so much... just waiting for hubby to wake and he can go to walmart to get me some..
I am not understanding this.. for I have had her to the vets to get tails docked.. and then was taken in on tuesday and wednesday and was given fluids.. although the vet said she did not want her to get infection.. I know fluids are a best friend right now..yet now again it is all starting over again...
same symptoms as she had when I took her to the vet first time for fluids.. anne

Sorry to hear your girl is having such a rough go. I have no experience with c-sections so can't be of much help there but I do hope for the best for Mara and her babies. If you can't keep her hydrated orally, you may want to sub-q some fluids into her. My vet gave me a bottle of 0.9 % sodium chloride injection solution for some pups my Bonnie had back in October that weren't thriving. You're probably right in your thinking that it's an infection but she has to stay well hydrated to produce her milk. Best of luck.

Yes, the panting isn't normal since it's already been over a week since she had the babies. At this point, you'd have to consider that she's in distress and the cause needs to be found. Gosh, I hope she bounces back for you soon or you'll have babies going downhill on you. That's why I'm on so late. I'm having to supplement a little boy that was born Sunday and isn't thriving so I'm living on naps for now and hanging out on the computer. The Pedialite should help Mara, at least in the short term until you can see the vet. A little Nutri-cal wouldn't hurt either.

I'm not sure what you mean in asking if this will make her want more. If you can get enough in her, you should see a fairly quick improvement, but not immediate. In adults as well as babies, dehydration affects all organ function so she must be feeling pretty poorly now. My girls all go through several bowls of water a day while nursing newborns so if she's feeding her babies she needs lots of fluids. Watch out that her milk doesn't go bad due to this. It should be nice and white with no off color to it. Jim

I mean she is not wanting water at this time with a syringe.. so wondering if she will take this better...I know my other female drinks a bowl full every time I put it down for her, so I find it hard with mara not wanting it..jim has gone now to get this for me.. and I am patiently waiting him to come home..

Hopefully that will help her out until you get her in to the vet's. Best wishes for you all, especially Mara and those little ones. And Jim sounds like a great guy, going out so late to the store. Ahh, the things we do for our little ones...take care.

ok so I forced some into her.. got a 3 cc syringe and got 4 of them full into her.. she did not want it.. I did have ice cream and she just tried to bury it.. so I know she is needing something.. I cannot beleive she was at the vets on the 11th, the 13th, again 16 and 17 for fluids.. and they did not think she might have some kind of infection....do you think I need to force more into her mouth... I so appreciate your help on this... anne
