| how many ties for female? Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on here much lately, but life's been crazy. I have a question, How many ties should you allow? My Ceasar has been quite active and I don't want him to get too tired or make Princess sore. They have tied every day since the 11th day (when she started flagging) at around the same time of day too. Should I separate them until she is out of heat now? Thanks for the input.

| How many days has it been? Most breeders say that the right 3 days are adequate but it all really depends on when your girlie ovulates... I think I usually see days 9, 11 & 12 but maybe some experienced breeders will reply. |

| It sounds like you're just letting them do things themselves. That's never a good idea. They could both get hurt that way. To answer your question yes, they should be kept seperated except during the breeding |

This is her first breeding and she just turned two, so I was pretty right on with the date of the onset of her heat as when she came to us she was in heat already back in May. We were on vacation when she went into heat this time (fun) so I did not have the opportunity this time to take her to check her hormone levels.

A funny note to all of this.....an experience Saturday that may be of use to people trying to deter breeding in their kids who are in heat....never leave your ladies alone with the male with no belly band even if she has panties on. My resourceful little Ceasar was able to tie right through the panties on Saturday!

| Hi all, just an update. 6 ties in 5 days. Day 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, so I am pretty sure she is preggers! We'll see. Thanks for the input! I value your sage advice

Allowing excessive ties will not increase the chances of producing a litter so much as careful planning ties will. Excessive ties can actually damage your female and decrease the chances that her uterus can hold the litter. Plus, males don't have an unlimited supply of that stuff, ya know...they do eventually start shooting blanks. Next time, if you are unsure of which are the best days, have progesterone testing done so that you can plan ties without having to let them try so many times. Just something to think about and research and be educated on BEFORE the next time around comes. Keep us updated. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 11-14-2008 at 06:34 AM. | |
