| ? about pup who won't nurse We have a pup that was delivered by c-section between 730 and 800 pm tonight (its now 1228), and she won't nurse. We have tried using a finger to stimulate her sucking, but she won't latch on to the tit. I milked the mom and got a couple of drops to give through a syringe, but I am just not sure. She weighs 1.9 oz and her brother weighs 3.6. He is much bigger and looks healthy, but she does not. He delivered naturally at 130 pm, so I am sure that makes a difference. At what point should I do something? How often should I try to feed her? Should I keep milking the mom or give her milk replacement? How much should she eat being that small? Thanks for the help! |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Oh, I am so very sorry the little girl did not make it. She was pretty small and may have had problems from the start....you just don't know. Hugs to you and the new mama, and to the little baby that is still there. Congratulations!

| There is so much to learn about saving these babies and sometime even if you do save them they may have problems later, Being so small her lungs were probably not developed enough yet. I am a bit surprised that a vet would send you home with a gasping puppy and not tell you how to take care of it. This is one of the sad parts about breeding Yorkshire Terriers, breeding dogs is a lot of work and dedication and there is so much to learn. I am sorry for your loss, I only wish I could have helped you more last night, but you were just to far away. Congratulations on your new baby boy!!! |
