| Aggressive Mother Troubles I'm sorry to make this my first post, but I'm in need of some help. I've been reading this forum with help for my expecting mother to be, but now she has three pups (about three hours ago) and she is trying to bite and harm the pups! I've tried being sweet with the mother and bringing the pups closer and she keeps snapping. I'm too nervous to just leave her alone with one and scared to death. Aside from this, I've had every question answered by this forum. Thank you all for your help, weither you known you are helping me or not! |

| Gosh, how terrible you are going through this... I worried my momma would do that when her babies were born, but she didn't. She wasn't aggressive toward them, but she didn't want anything to do with them either for about 18 hours. I went over to check on them and sat down by the whelping area and she charge off the bed and went right in and started licking them and nursing. But it took 18 hours. I wish I had some words of wisdom for you on what to do but I just don't and I am so sorry. Hopefully, someone with more experience will chime in and post you some help for you this evening. Good luck and I'll be sending prayers your way.

| Thank you for the reply. Amazingly we've had two, and using a stethoscope we can hear a sixth puppy! This is her first little, so I am a little overwhelmed. On her 5th pup were we resting on the coach (she was in her bed) and with blinking an eye she had another one! She did all the work herself this time (she never did before) and she's becoming a little nicer. She still snaps when I try to feed them. I imagine she's sore and wore out. Hopefully the sixth will come just as easily as the forth and fifth. I will post again tomorrow with pics! |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | OMG, I sure am glad that motherhood finally clicked for your girl. I was wondering as I read your first post or two if maybe she wasn't really trying to harm the pups, but maybe just being a little agressive at cleaning them and chewing at the umbilical cords?????? In any case, I'm glad to hear that all turned out well. Six puppies, wow, that's quite a litter. Your pictures don't come up BTW........hope you can get some posted that we will be able to see. Congratulations!

| I know what you mean about cutting the cord. The first three pups she wanted nothing to do with, but she jumped in for the last three and did everything. I think, since it was her first time, she was just scared and nervous, but she's doing awesome now. I can't figure out how to post pictures, so I keep linking to the ones I uploaded yesterday. | Congratulations on all those babies and I am so happy that she finally came around. I figured she probably would, just sometimes it takes a little while for these first time mommies. How are all the puppies doing now? Any new pics?

So glad to hear that the momma is now loving her 6 little ones. Have fun watching them grow. You will be very busy in about 5 weeks.
