Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | When Lexie had her pups last year, I used Mardelin's whelping pudding recipie for probably the first week or two.....just added a little of it to Lexie's food everytime she ate. She only had 4 puppies compared to your 7....I just didn't want to take any chances of her getting low on her calcium supply while feeding the pups. I agree with the others that with 7 pups to feed you need to do something extra to keep up her calcium supply. Congrats again....and good luck with them all!

| I'm certainly no expert; but I've experienced a Mom with 5 in a litter being easily overheating in the days following the birthing. Did she get a shot of oxytocin afterward? I think this affects them for some time afterward as it is forcing the uterus to continue to contract. I would keep an eye on her; make sure she is eating and drinking well, and not showing any signs of distress. Also you seem to be doing a good job at keeping track of the kids weights. Congratulations!! What a 'pile of puppies!" |

| hey i moved mom upstairs where its a little cooler i had them in a small fleeces lined box..wasnt my choice it was gidgets..so i took the fleece top off, and put her them with the box upstairs in the bigger kennel next my bed where its a little cooler...and i have already noticed a difference, i also gave her some vanilla ice cream...im not sure how much calicum stuff im supposed to give and when...so every few hours during the day and evening i give her like 1/2 a bowl of either yogurt, ice cream, pudding mix or cottage cheese plus she asked for some canned food today |

| Tammy I use to give my girls goats milk mixed with a little karo and egg yolk. Now I found that soy milk has the same amount of calcium so I use that with an egg yolk and some dyne each evening until pretty much 4-5 weeks. She loves it and still has room for her regular food so she is getting the proper nutrients she needs. Soy and goats milk have alot higher calcium content than regular milk and yogurt. I buy the vanilla organic soy milk and I also use it in my tea. So it works for us both!!! Best of luck with the new babies!! |
