| Signs of being in heat I was wondering what some of the signs are for a female yorkie during her heat. I have noticed that my girl periodically has body odor even a day or so after a bath....where normally it would be alot longer before she "smells" like she needs a bath again. Is that a sign of heat? What other signs does one look for? Any info is greatly appreciated! |

| Well, I will tell you what I know and then maybe someone more experienced with heats will jump in!! Their privates will swell and turn pink, and be moist. Their teets will generally get pinker and swell also. My little girl used to hump her stuffed animal more, leading up to the heat.

| I don't really think the body odor has anything to do with an impeding heat cycle. It could be due more to diet. I have noticed that before a heat cycle some of my females get very moody and irritable. Some of them will try to hump another female. Some of them sleep more and are not as playful. The vulva will start swelling several days to a week before the bleeding actually starts. |

| Heat signs: 1. Vulva becomes pinkish indication that she's maybe coming in to Season. 2. First week swelling (7 days) 3. Second week, showing of color 4. Third week is when the color begins to fade and she's breedable. I have noticed from time to time a musky odor in the genital area, but never a body odor. | Today I had my female yorkie on my lap and when she got off me she left some sticky substance on my jeans. I looked down there and the whole area looks swollen. She is approx 10 months old. I have not noticed much other changes in her.....maybe sleeping a bit more in the evenings. Do you think this is a heat? What other things could I do today to check whether it is indeed a heat or not? Thanks so much! |

| My girls are every 6 months, some can be a little different. Heat last 3 weeks, and if you have males or take her outside be very careful, males are very fast and determined
