| Docking tail and Dew Claws .... This is the first time we have ever had a puppy quite this tiny and I am a bit concerned about the appointment to dock the tail and have the dew claws done. Those of you who have had tiny puppies ( 2 oz ) do you bring them in to have this procedure done on the 3rd day, or do you wait until they are a bit larger? Tulsa's puppy seems to be doing very well, she is just very tiny, but I am concerned that if I bring her in she might not handle it as well as some of the other larger puppies ( 4-5 oz ) we have had in other litters. I would really appreciate any advice you might have. Thank you ..... |

| Well, you can only wait so long to have it done...I would not consider it after 4-5 days max. Is it completely out of the question for you to dock the little one yourself? That would eliminate the need to take her out of the house if that is what worries you... |

| I would wait a few days also...I have waited once for 7 days on a very small puppy and she did fine...I think it is too hard on them...See how much she weighs in a couple of days...If she is up on weight and doing well then do it!

| I too have waited to dock the tail of a puppy who IMO was just to small at 3 or 4 days of age. His tail and dews were docked at 8 days of age without any problems.
