UKC Champion? I'm trying to learn more about the show world..........I'm looking at a pedigree and it shows an AKC /UKC Dual Registerd dog that is UKC CH , I'm not familiar with the UKC Registry at all and my question is , does an AKC or UKC CHampion dog be in the same level talking registries , quality, standards.......say If I show thru UKC is it easier to get a title then thru AKC?

showing I sincerely respect anyone who shows UKC...but AKC is much harder IMO. Majors can be very difficult to obtain in areas where there are few breeders who show...and to get a major you must beat a larger number of dog/bitches...and in AKC you are competing against many of the foundation names..breeders who have shown for 30, 40 years...they got it down to a science and make few mistakes. The worlds best Yorkies compete in AKC..so you have them to beat..plus, the best handlers from all over the globe show AKC..so you have them to beat..as a rule they are at larger and Specialty shows, but handlers are at most all shows..and they show for a living, so they are good at what they do..it many sound impossible for a novice, but I see lots of nice dogs finished by newbies...you have to work harder...as with any sport, right?

If you compare showing in Europe and USA, which is the hardest? I know that Am CH is respected over here. How about European, say Sweden, CH title, is it worth anyting in the USA?

Champions I think America exhibitors respect a good line of Yorkies..so the country of registry is not as important as the dogs. The world is smaller and smaller all the time...breeders ship semen and buy stock from well known breeders everywhere...so the quality of the Yorkie is improving for all. There was a time, many did not think much of a Canadian title...but I see so many excellent Can dogs in person and ads..A CKC title is much more meaningful now then in years past. I, also think the average AKC exhibitor respects a foreign title much more then a non-AKC America registry titles..after all AKC recognizes many foreign titles/countries, but few, if any USA non-AKC registries...if they do, let me know, I want to be correct.

I have no idea that's why I asked.. For me it's strange to have many organizations. We have only FCI/Kennel Club and that's it. I thinkk AKC is recognized back here. Don't know about the other Clubs.

Showing.......... I have been contemplating this idea lately , I'm kinda want to get into showing but nothing serious, just for fun (I'm not sure if I make sense) with local shows only...... but I know that with any Club AKC OR UKC will required lots of dicipline from my part and honestly my dogs are brats and get away with what ever they want from mommy. If you are preparing your dog for show, do you still babish and spoil your doggie or are down to business strictly? there any other clubs out there that have shows going on? From what I see, I have AKC on top then UKC . (and I'm not putting down UKC , I understand that it takes a lot to finish a Champion in either club and I respect every one in the show field )

showing There are AKC sponsored fun matches you can enter...they say "fun"..but it is a disciplined show...just no points. Also, local handling classes are great to learn.. The best show dog starts as a puppy...it can be very hard to teach a dog discipline after none had been required. I have no doubt in my mind if I took Becca in the ring, she would look at me as if I was out of my mind wanting her to stand on a table, while a judge goes over her...she is used to people walking up to her and giving her a kiss and a pat on the head. With a lot of work, she could show decently, but it would have been so much easier if I had trained her from 12 weeks on...and she can still be a spoiled pet..but one who knows what is expected of them in the ring. How old is your Yorkie?

My 3 yorkies are 2 yrs old, then I have a little one from Sweetie (in my avatar) but she is going to her forever home soon, she is almost 15 weeks old. I'll be keeping one or two puppies from my next litter and that's when I want to start preparing . I wouldn't dream of taking in my adult dogs to matches .....they will be kissing and wagging their tails to every one there, they are lil clowns . (They do stand on the grooming table for me but they kiss my hands in every chance they get, I don't think the judges would like that) Any good books out there to get my hands on? also where can I get the show list ? so I know what events are coming to the city ahead of time.

| Here is a link to most of the AKC shows coming up. There will be specialties in Houston coming up the 22nd, 23rd and 24th. I know there will be many of the top breedes, exhibitors, handlers and dogs there. It would definitely be worth attending if you could make it. It will be listed under closed shows on Onofrios site. Entries just closed so the times won't be known till later. Jack Onofrio Dog Shows, LLC

YES I AGREE that akc is harder but in ukc to get a grand champion you must show under 5 different judges and compete against at least 3 yorkies that are champions sometimes easier said than done | |

I know this post is pretty old, but i still want to add my 2 cents...lol... AKC is harder to get a dog CH. than UKC, but UKC is a good starting point for both new handlers and new pups. I started showing UKC and started my babies out UKC until they got use to the show ring. Everyone is different, but I like doing it this way...
