♥My Lil' Monkey Girl♥ Donating Member | Problem?? Please Help Okay so i checked Peyton like i normally do and i noticed her top teat was swollen like it looked on her bottom one earlier on. *That was told was normal by the vet* But this new swelling seems hard lumply like and i cant squeeze any milk out and when i rub it with a little bit *not a lot of pressure at all* she squirms are looks as though she wants to bite. She is eating and all I just took her temp too and it was 104 not sure if that is a normal temp or not... BUT could this time be Mastitis?? I am praying that it is not but worried that it could be!

| Starla, I think that temperature is a little high. If I am not mistaken, normal temp is 101. I would certainly call your vet.

| An engorged teat is merely a teat with too much milk. Mastitis is an infection of the teat. 104 temp is high....normal would be 101-102.5. Check a teat that does have milk to see if it's a normal color (the milk). Here's a link with some info.....Mastitis In Dogs You probably should see a vet given her high temp. |

♥My Lil' Monkey Girl♥ Donating Member | Okay so i did a cabbage treatment on her and checked her temp again and it was 102.7 So im not sure what her temp was i also gave her Karo syrup she is eating and shows no other signs of mastitis other then the engorged look.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Starla, That sounds alot like what happened with Lexie a few days after she had her pups. I copied from the post; here is what we did and it did seem to help.... Quote:

| OUCH! poor baby! Yes as a few have mentioned here a temp of 104 is high. WhenI took Lola to the vet for the same reason ,the vet told me that her temp was 101 it was normal and no signs of infection because of that. I still continued the cabbage leaves on her a few times a day as instructed by the Vet and it helped alot. At first I could NOT get a single drop of milk to come out. She deffinately needs relief . All I can tell you is to keep trying to express milk a few times a day. It does not have to be much . The vet told me not to squeeze a whole lot because it would refill much quicker.... Do you have her on antibiotics? Lola had the really lumpy swollen breasts but I think it never got infected/Mastitis because she was already on Antibiotics.. Good Luck and keep us updated. Keep taking her temp Genie |

| Put a warm compress on her, a warm wet bathcloth will do. It'll help the milk come down and provide some relief for her. |
