Hi all, Maisey pups are going to be 4 weeks old on Wednesday, but im really concerned that ive not seen them poo yet eventhough they have been on puppy food for 3 days. Maisey has had the runs for 3 days as well, do you think i should keep her away from the pups? thanks ann-marie |

If the puppies are nursing and not in pain they must be pooping. The mother usually cleans up after them. It is no longer necessary for her to lick them to make them go, but she will still clean up their poop. I would take her to a vet to find out why she has diarrhea.

weaning You might keep her away for several hours during the day...she is no doubt catching the poo as it comes out..I rarely see poo unless mom is away for several hours...I would give mom some meds for her stools...and remember she is eating the stools with the worms meds and that can make hers loose..I would give her chicken and rice for a few days also...

my moms usually stop eating poop sometime along the way like 4-6 weeks but they keep licking them to clean them you could try separating them and watching for poop

pee and poop Just to be sure, I'd take a warm cotton ball and gently wipe on their privates so they pee, usually that will stimulate them to poop. If they are not pooping it could back up and cause major infection. You might be surprised how much they poop so have plenty of cotton balls and do each one. Let us know. Duncanmom

ppoo It is normal for a mother raising pups to eat 3-4 meals a day..she needs all the extras to feed the babies and gain back her weight. Especially if she had a large litter. I recently had a litter of 7- yes 7, and she is eating me out of house and home. Never seen yorkies stools quite this size ever! What are you feeding the mom? Puppy food I hope.
