| New Hurdle to Overcome with C-section Baby I wanted to know from anyone who's had a C-section done on their girl.Did she eventually warm up to the puppies? Lola does NOT want to even sit near her baby.I pick her up and pet her while slowly putting her in her whelp bed with her baby. As soon as she is in ,she just walks right out. I show her the puppy and she refuses to look, she just turns her face .Also twice she has growled at him when he sucked on a nipple. So I've been supervising the feedings.Physically squeezing her teat and puttin him on it. I sit there while he feeds for about 10-15 minutes. Then he always likes to crawl by her neck and her paw is over like she is hugging him. As soon as she's aware that he's there ,she walks out of the bed. Is this normal behavour? She doesnt seem to be in any pain from the C-section but she just wants to be with me . I have an Xpen enclosed around the whelpbox with a peepad on the side, food and water. The puppy has been peeing and pooping on his own a few times today. She does not lick to stimulate him to pee or poop. Tonight I'm sleeping in the bathroom with them to make sure he eats ever 1-2 hrs at least. I NEED a better scale! I've been calling Staples ,Office Max and so on and the cheapest one was $119. I just can't afford that much right now. When I weigh him it says 3.5 ,before and after feedings. Not showing weightloss and since he is peeing and pooping I'm pretty sure he is getting milk. Lola ate a good amount around 5 pm (about a cup of puppy food) plus she had a few oz of Post Whelping Pudding. She did not want to drink water though . For some reason she likes to drink and eat at night.I worry that she might hurt him on purpose. I really wanted to give birth naturally so she can see that the puppycame from inside herl lol. Right now she's acting like he's a total stranger and she wants to be as far away from him as possible. Genie,Cookie,Lola,Angel & Baby |

| puppy Some moms do this...I hope her hormones kick in soon. You must make sure he is getting plenty of milk, every 3 to 4 hrs around the clock...does his belly look full? You must wipe his privates after each nursing and he should pee after each nursing..not always a poop, but at least 3 good size poops in 24 hrs. at this age...Pinch the skin on the back of his neck..does it snap back fast..is he active, moving around, but quiet? Is he twitching in his sleep...a healthy sign? Non-thrivers tend to lay very still, on their side. Nursing usually takes only about 3 or 5 mins..make sure his sucking is strong..is he jerking his head back strongly as he nurses or is he lightly sucking....Good luck |

♥My Lil' Monkey Girl♥ Donating Member | I NEED a better scale! I've been calling Staples ,Office Max and so on and the cheapest one was $119. I just can't afford that much right now. Hey cookie.... i went to my local wal-mart and went to the cooking section. I picked up one of those digital scales for i believe it was 20.00 no more than that. And it works great! It comes with of course the scale but there is also a tray that comes with it that you can place on top to weigh them in. You might want to try that. i have attached a link to two other scales they carry you can look into what i would do is call your local walmart and see what they have (or you can just go check them out). If they dont carry it you can place your order online for store to store and it should get there pretty fast. BUT they SHOULD have at least one of the three i showed/told you about! Hope that helps you! Search results for digital scale - Wal-mart |

That is where I got my scale and it works great! Good luck with that baby, I really hope mama starts caring for him on her own. Like Yorkierose said you need to make sure you wipe him to stimulate him to pee and poo everytime after he eats, since mama is not doing it. usually a baby wipe or a warm wet rag works great for this. Good luck, I hope the little baby does good!!!

| Thats the one I was going to buy but it was return item and it was broken! I'm going to drive to another Walmart and see if they have it there active, moving around, but quiet? Yes he is.He sleeps on his belly mostly and moves quite a bit but is sleeping. Is he twitching in his sleep...a healthy sign Yup doing that too make sure his sucking is strong..is he jerking his head back strongly as he nurses He does do that too lol. He jerks his head back and forth. Holds on around her teat and jerks back . He crawls around like he's looking for his mommy I am going to go now to the other Walmart. be back soon Genie |

Yeah, I know how you feel. I couldn't find Cookie a little while ago and I started freaking out..but come to find out she was under the bed with her bone chewing it She is holding off, today is her 62nd day from her second breeding so they should be coming any day now. I thought we were going to have them last night, she was nesting in the covers, so I sat up almost all night and then I finally went to bed and set my alarm to wake me every 30 minutes and it is 8:50PM and she is still doing good and we have no puppies yet, her temperature is running 100.1-100.9 and she is eating and everything so, I guess I will just have to continue waiting

| Pat dont tell me that! I'm already falling for him! I just got back and I found the digital scale for $28! He weighs 3. 7/8 ounces =110grams So I will deffinately see how much he's gaining. The cutest and funniest thing happened when I weighed him now lol. I held him and he peed straight up in the air .It was too funny ...then he of course took a poop on my hand If he was 3 lbs ..this would not be cute but ounces? I thought it was too cute Genie,Cookie,Lola ,Angel & baby |

| This normal in a couple of days she will understand she is her mommy.Put the baby close to her nose so she can smell him and encourage her to take care of him.Sometimes its a little hard but she'll come around.

| Smile Genie, I'm so glad Lola is doing well, I hope she warms up to her little one soon. Doo Doo is starting to take her little ones out of the box, so I keep my eye and ear on her, I'm the one that keeps putting them back in. Well hang in there Lola is very lucky to have you as a back up mom. |

| singleton My first singleton, Scooter, got out of his box at 4 weeks, walked from my bedroom, down a long hall, into the kitchen and barked at me...I swear it happened!!!! I was so shocked... He went to live with one of my vets parents...Scooter sat at the breakfast table each morning, had bacon and eggs with his "parents"...my vet said he was never treated so well as Scooter was..but he agreed Scooter was human...good luck |

| Update on Lola and Lucky My husband named him today. he called me from work and just told me " Lucky, that's his name ok?" I have not really slept in the past 24 hrs lol. I had to put him on a nipple and pet Lola while he sucked. He was 3.88 oz lastnight that was after I found the digital scale and he had already fed.Today I took his weight and it shows 3.75 .Today I will be a little more aggressive with the feeding. The thing is he sucks well for like 10 minutes and then calms down and crawls in her chest and falls asleep. He’s pooping and peeing so he must be getting food. Also I put him to suckle around 11:30 pm lastnight and set my alarm for 2:30 am.Well by 1 am he was crying and I jumped out of bed to put him on her nipple. I ended up having to get my pillow and sheet and lay beside them…very uncomfy for me since I had to keep my body curled up the whole time! Lol Well then around 2 am the absolute strangest thing happened! Lola started to dig and pant! She kept digging and making noises that truly sounded like she was worried sort of wimpering but whispered .She kept panting and digging and she started licking the puppy like crazy! She did not stop licking him forlike 40 minutes. She even chewed the bit of dry umbilical cord that he had remaining .Then she rolled on her back so he would be able to nurse.I wanted to get the camera and record this but I was enjoying this bonding moment too much. Well I got the scale and put it on the floor next to their bed . When I took thepuppy she jumped out of the bed and was trying to take him away from me and she was crying for him. Icould barely weigh him and hurried andput him in bed with her and told her “It’s ok ,it’s ok,I just needed to check him” I guess she needed to experience the birth to realize that she had him?
