Hey Genie,

Wow - I am so so sorry for your two losses. I know how heart wrenching it can be. The good news is that Lola is safe and will be back with you as soon as you know it. The bonus? You have an adorable little pup for you (and Lola!) to love. I am so glad that you trusted your instinct on this one. Once you sent the pics this morning, I didnt think it could still be the mucus plug.

I am so sorry that you had to go through this. I know it has to be hard with Lola being away too. Please keep me posted!

I am so glad it is over and you have a baby..he looks strong...you know I sit here reading posts, giving advise and it is a big responsiblity to say enough to help and not too much to cause a harm. I have done many things with my own dogs and take full responsiblity if it all goes wrong...
We knew there was most likely a dead puppy...and you knew it was time to act...this is what it takes to be a good breeder!!!

Where in vet school was a green discharge considered a mucus plug...I would write your experince, sent it to the all vets involved..print out anything you can find on pre-whelping discharges...maybe they will learn something.

Pat you must have ESP because I have every intention of doing just that.Vets and pet owners do need to respect each other I understand that. But many times the pet owner's worries/concerns go unheard because we didnt go to vet school and they did. Sometimes we do know better,we do know our pets better than they do. The thing I see is if they specialized in emergency C-sections,breeding and whelping only. I bet they would have way more knowledge about this. Right now I am so angry with that first vet that it will do no good to call him and give him a piece of my mind. I felt terrible sitting there ,I just felt completely alone and I was responsible for the outcome. They asked me point blank what was my main concern.Lola or the pups? I said of course Lola but as I'm sitting there responding to them. My right hand is tucked under her belly and I feel that little guy kicking and kicking "thump, thump.thump in the palm of my hand. I felt he was telling me " Hey ! I'm in here. I deserve to be here too!It took every ounce of strength to keep it together as her belly was twitching with puppy kicks.I wish Icould just sign them out and bring them home tonight. The only reason I didnt fight the doctor's advice to please leave her till 8 am is because they are there 24 hrs. I've been there before at 1 am and there is always a vet and assistants there. If they were closed at night with no one there I would deffinately say NO . I am counting down the hours to go and pick them up. I know they are better off here .I'll give them 24/7 care.

Genie.....hugs to you, Lola, and her little baby boy. I am so sorry the birth of her pups was not as you had hoped and am very sorry for the loss of the other two babies. But looking on the bright side, you do have one seemingly healthy baby and mama Lola is going to be okay too. The picture of the little one is precious and we look forward to seeing lots more of him in the coming weeks. I know it might be hard, but I hope you will try and get some much needed rest tonight before bringing them home tomorrow. My thoughts and prayers continue....

Love

Reading from your first post, to the last really brought tears to my eyes. I just had a litter 2 weeks ago, and I can't even imagine what you are going through right now! I had some scary moments myself and had a bad experience with the vet, who also gave me bad advise. Nothing like you went through! I'm just so very sorry for your loss! I'm glad you were able to save 1 of the pups, and Mom most of all!! But still, being a new mom myself, I can only imagine how must be feeling!

Put all your love and attention into Mom and boy, as they will need it more then ever!

Again, sorry for your loss and congratulations at the same time.

Best,
Jeni

Genie,

I was gone all day yesterday and just read all of your posts! I am so glad that you took Lola to another vet and that you were able to save her and one of her puppies. How are you doing? How is Lola and baby boy today?

Take care and hugs!

I don't understand that at all. Generally what is good for the pups is good for mom too. Since she had a ruptured uterus a c section was a must for her life and the puppy's life (not that they knew it was ruptured but in retrospect we know this). C sections are usually pretty safe (although there is always a risk, I did have a girl vomit/aspirate during one but they got her cleared out and she was fine) so I am not really sure where they were coming from in asking you that. Dead puppies, and the puppy with the detached placenta was probably dead by the time you got to the vet the first time even, are harder to whelp than live puppies, so the section was the best thing all around. I'd rather section while mom is still somewhat strong than wait to try to deliver dead puppies, have her exhausted and compromised, and section while she is in poorer condition with no possibility of a live birth. You handled this really well and I hope all goes well for mom and your boy, and I am sorry for your loss. Unfortunately puppy loss is so much more frequent in toy dogs...
