We just got back, I left the computer signed on as soon as I posted the thread. I had to take her to another Emergency hospital that had a surgeon on staff tonight because my other hospital only had a regular vet on staff tonight! Before I go into detail let me just say that the vet said she looks fine and sent us home.

At 5 pm I was about to wash her vulva and butt, just to freshen her up . Well when I was about to whipe her with a moist washcloth I saw a dark, dark green discharge stuck on her vulva. I immediately thought "oh no the placenta has detatched!" But there was very, very little of it.I wiped it off with a tissue and called the vet. hospital near us (10miles away) The assistant told me to take her to another Hospital because their surgeon was not in tonight. She said take her because 98% of dark green discharge is not a good sign. Well I took her. The vet palpitated and told me he was feeling the puppies deffinately moving around. He asked if I had the tissue with the discharge because he wanted to see the amount. Once he saw it he had sort of a relieved look on his face and told me " If it was a detatched placenta the discharge would have been much more than this." He did not want to do a vaginal exam on her because he felt she was ok and this was normal" He wrote on her chart " Softening of the cervix and small amount of mucus plug.No need for vaginal exam for that small amount of discharge."Pet just starting to prepare for whelping. I was worried at first because I could not find the 2nd pup heartbeat but he said he deffinately felt them on each side when he palpitated .He just told me to monitor her closely and keep her in her whelping area away from others.
lastnight was a really horrible night for us. My hubby's yorkie Angel ate something that upset his stomach. We do not know what. He threw up violently and lots and lots of vomit. Well his stomach muscle would not contract back and was just completly sunk in. I cant describe it but it was awful. He was passing out and I decided to take his heartrate and give him some nutrical incase. Well I had to demand that my husband leave the room because he was already tearing up and saying that nothing better happen to his little guy. I took him in m y arms and got out my stethoscope. His heartrate was at 70 beats per minute! I called the hospital and my husband drove us there in like 6 minutes, normally it takes about 15 minutes to get there. The vet told us that the force of the reflex was so severe that it can cause the heart to slow down so much that a dog will pass out. There was no obstruction in his bowels thank God. He was given two shots and after 2 hrs his heart rate went back up to 120 so he was getting better. This morning he was back to his spunky oldself. I found a toy he chewed up bad lastnight.
I need to rest up early tonight

Lola's napping right now in her whelping box

Thank you guys for sending those prayers. I was afraid I was going to have to leave her at the hospital.

This is the whelping box we set upfor her. Notice the tub filled with stuff? All her whelping supplies are in there!

Glad everything is OK... better safe than sorry!

Beautiful whelping box... are you really using that for Lola to give birth? You do know how "messy" it will get....

Good luck with the delivery... I guess it will be in a few days.

Genie! I just logged on to find myself reading this. I felt like such a bad friend, you were there for me when Doo Doo had her litter and here I am such a slacker. I'm glad Lola is doing well, yes it is time to be on alert, puppies will be here soon. I'll PM you later to see how things are going.

Wow, what a crazy night and day you have had!

I am so glad to hear that both Angel and Lola are both okay and doing well now. After all that's gone on in the last 24 hours for you, I hope Lola will hold off on whelping those pups until you have time to rest up a bit yourself.

Hugs and good luck with the whelping......I'll keep my eyes open for the happy event.
