| Premie pup??? Ok, so Bridget's babies were born this am by c-section. Our smallest guy looks as though he is premature. Is there anything I can do for him, to help keep him here with us, or at least give him a fighting chance???

| Do you have his weight? Is he nursing at all? I would try to get him to nurse ahead of the other puppies. If he seems too weak to nurse try getting some puppy formula and either syringe feed him or try getting one of the puppy bottles that bring several different size nipples. Genie,Cookie,Lola & Angel |

| First things first, get some Karo/corn syrup and put a dap on your finger then onto his tounge. Second, Pull him and momma out and let him nurse on his own without the others oushing him away. Make sure you give him private feedings about every hour. I know others will have better things for you to try, but that is what I do when the runt isn't doing so good. unless he dont respond to that, then I take him into the vet and get advise there (vet is also Yorkie shower&breeder) Good luck and keep us updated. Sending well wishes and strength for you and the weee one, and mommy!

| You may have to tube feed him if you want to save him. Technically he is not premature but may have had a bad placement in the uterine horn and just did not grow like the others. There is a great video on you tube on how to tube feed but I would call the vet and see if you can take him in and have them show you how and give you the supplies. I agree that he needs one on one feedings with his mother also. I would tube him in between feedings with his mother. Make sure and weigh him every day to see if he is gaining weight. Make sure he is not chilled when he is feeding as you should never tube feed a chilled puppy. Congrats on the litter. Hope he does wonderful, praying for him. |

| yeah he is super tiny, I figure at most he is 9 days early ( if I count out 7 days after the last tie) His weight right now 2.3 ounces or 7.6 grams, and I did rub a bit of the Karo syrup on his gums. I have not had sucess in getting him to latch on. Mom seems somewhat indiffrent to everone, I am sure it is due to the surgery today.

| Oh hon I have had them.. we had to tube feed gracie for two weeks night and day every two hours on the button.. or she would not have made it.. my fear would be that the little one will dehydrate quicker then you can imagine.. so you need to make sure if he will suckle.. to make sure every hour he is on that teat.. I lost two so fast this litter and they were doing so well until tails were docked and dew claws removed.. so please do not get dew claws done if you get tail done.. I would have rather had my tails and them alive but they were in pain and it is so hard on them.. most do not realize how traumic it really is.. there are video's on tube feeding and if they will not suckle enough that is the best way to know how much they are getting.. remember mom's milk comes first..watch for any little sign of dehyration at all.. for they will go down fast and even tube feeding cannot get the fluid in there body they need.. with subq fluids.. that is what I will learn to do on my own..my vet would not do it for me.. keep us updated.. there are so many more breeders on here much more experienced then myself..anne |
