Question for Breeders. What kibble and can food do you Feed? I am wondering what dryfood and wet food do Breeders feed their dogs and how much are the dogs eating ? Right now I am giving Lola Eukanuba small breed and Eukanuba can food. She is eating about 3/4 cup of dryfood and I add about 2tbsp of can food. She is 38 days now. I dont want to over or under feed her. I know there are soooo many opinions on what food brand is best. I guess I really want to know if I am under feeding her or over feeding? It takes her most of the day to eat the foodmix that I serve her. She is drinking plenty of water and I make sure there is water there all day long also. By the way Lola was weighing about 6.25 lbs and now she is around 6.75 lbs or a little more. Genie,Cookie,Lola and Angel

I feed my Yorkies Canidae All Stages dry and I add a little canned Pedigree Puppy Lamb and Rice or Pedigree Chopped Chicken. After whelping I mix dry Chicken Soup Puppy food with the Canidae and canned puppy food. All my dogs free feed, dry food is always available. It sounds like she is getting plenty to eat. You might what to put out a bowl of dry food for her to munch on if she gets hungry. Just watch her weight. Sometimes females will loose weight when pregnant and the owners don't notice it because of the fat belly and then after the pups are born they are surprised how skinny momma is. And on the other had you don't want her to get to fat because that can make the puppies fatter and harder to deliver.

I feed Canidae All Life Stages dry until mom's are 1/2 way through pregnancy. Then I switch over to Nutro Ultra Puppy Food. I mix with water and microwave for 1 minute to help the water absorb and soften the kibble and let cool. The mom's seem to eat more when I soften it. I used to add a bit of canned food, but they told me it isn't necessary, just add the water and serve warm. I feed the Nutro Ultra Puppy Food until the mom's wean the pups and then it's back to Canidae All Life Stages.

I feed my dogs Royal Canin mini adult. When a female is expecting I switch for Royal Canin puppies food. I also give them some Eukanuba can food here and there.

I use Drs. Foster & Smith's dry food and Pedigree lamb and vegetable for canned. I have a girl now that is due in about 10 days. Her appetite has gone way up in the last couple of weeks (the pups do most of their growing the last 3 weeks or so) but she's gotten picky so she's eating more canned than normal lately.

| I have experienced the same thing. Chloe is eating more, but is very picky about what she eats. I have resorted to wet food, but I want to try the water and microwave trick to ensure that she is eating the dry food too. She tends to pick around the dry food that is mixed in with the wet food. So spoiled!

I also make sure she does have dryfood in her bowl . It just takes her all day to finish the bowl that I put down in the morning! She seems picky also but she is acting different with her food. She wont let any other dog near it .I guess that is good because I want to make sure she is eating it. There are two male yorkies in our home and all get seperate bowls. I will soon need one of those plastic gate playpens so I can give her more privacy. I noticed the ones sold at PetCo are $119 and the ones used for human babies look identical for about $60-$70

Does anyone use "Lifes Abundance" dog food?? I am using Purina Puppy Morsels that the breeder gave me when I got Lily but thought it best maybe to change her food to something better?? She seems to be doing fine on the Purina but I'm not sure that is good for her. She is 14 weeks old and weighs about 3.5lb. I free feed her and I have been giving her a tsp. of "Little Ceasar" wet dog food in the morning?? THANKS!!

| As for the puppy food, vets and breeders recommend that you feed the pregnant dog puppy food because it has more nutrients, etc. I was at the vet yesterday and she told me to put Chloe on puppy food (which she already was).

kibble My pregnant girls get puppy food for added nutrition. I feed Royal Canin, RC actually now has a food to feed pregnant moms. You have to be a member of their breeder program but even still the savings on food is huge compared to the prices at Petco.

Go check out a baby consignment shop, or craigslist, you probably can find gates and playpens for a fraction of the cost.
