| Pregnant or Not I was just wondering if any one has a female yorkie that was bred, and showing all signs of being pregnant been told by a vet that she isn't. The vet that I took my Layla to first checked her tummy, demeanor, history and size, he first told me that he felt pretty sure she was going to have puppies. Well he did an xray and told me that she wasn't pregnant he could not see any puppies. She was bred on May 10, the xray was taken on June 11. He said that there is a slight chance that she may be pregnant with one puppy and that the way it was laying could prevent it showing up on an xray. I would really love to hear from people that has had a simular problem as mine. The not knowing for sure is driving me crazy. Please Help. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | This happened to me! I had x-rays done at 6 weeks (since this is what the vet recommended) but I've since learned that you need to wait until day 50-53 to be sure. At day 42 when I had them done, the vet came back and said he couldn't find any puppies, it must be a phantom pregnancy. Well, we just knew she was pregnant, and we were right! She delivered 4 puppies on day 58! At this time the vet said the skeletons must have still been "soft" (not fully developed) when he took the x-rays.

| I am actually surprised they did a xray at this stage. I have done ultrasound at 30 days once and you could see one bubble which they said could possibly maybe be one puppy. However at 50 days we did another xray and saw 3. From what I understand the bones have not calcified at this stage, and thus would not show up. I could be wrong. However on Bridgets last litter 3 were born ( we skipped the ultrasound ) and in the Xray you only saw 2. So I would wait until she is closer to her due date and try again. So yes she could be preggers!

| Actually... if they are carrying more than one puppy you can usually tell by 6 weeks.

| Honeslty I did not see a major change till about 3 weeks ago, then all of a sudden a baby belly began to appear almost overnight, growing by leaps and boounds until now. Here it is 5 days prior to delivery. However keep in mind she has 5 in there!!! But she seriously looked not preggers a month ago!!!

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | My little Lacie had a false Preg. in Feb. She had all the signs of pups except for having pups. Even the vet thought she was up until the week before when we went for xrays. The false preg. was hard on her as she went around for another weeks with a toy squirel from the hide a squirel carried like a baby. She really morned those pups she never had. I hope it never happens again.

That is exactly what is happening here. Her ribcage has deffinately grown. I used to measure her often up until about 5 months ago because I make her outfits. Her ribcage was like 12 - 12.25 inches. I measured over a week ago and it was 13" . I measured today and its almostt 13.5! So if it is a phantom pregnancy she is getting bigger also...She's not eating as much as I thought she would to get this big already. I try feeding her often but she just stares at the foodbowl from her bed lol. She will get up and get a few bites and it takes like the wholeday to eat 3/4 cup. I do mix in like 2 Tbsp of wet food in there. She seems like she started getting pickier.... I take her for an Xray at day 47 ,so that's next Friday. We shall see what the Xray shows. And what the vet says by examining her. Genie | |
