| Heat? Please help! We have a 10 1/2 month (born 7/17) female and a 3 1/2 month (born 2/17) male. We would like Willow to have one litter and have been told that the timing (space between them) is very good...A bit concerned here as we are not sure if Willow had a "silent"? first heat or not...We had Jake to the vet today for his 3rd set of shots and expressed our concerns regarding Willow's safety (as far as getting pregnant too soon) and were told not to worry as Jake will be "shooting blanks" until he is at least 8 mnths. Willow has been acting a little different the past couple of days and thank God for this sight as I read that we could wipe her with tissue and sure enough, there was a tiny spot of blood just now...which means she is either in her 1st or 2nd heat. Jake doesn't seem to show an interest, but we want to be sure (from pros such as yourselves) that he could not impregnate her as he is only 3.5 mnths. Sorry this is so long, but we would never want to put our baby in jeopardy.Thank you thank you!! |

| At 3 1/2 months I think it is next to impossible for him to impregnate her. Just to be safe, watch them closely and if he gets too frisky with her or she starts standing for him, seperate them. I would suspect your girl is in her first heat, not second.

| Thank you!!! Why would you suspect it to be her 1st heat? |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | First heat usually takes place anywhere after 6 months of age....a female will normally have 2 heat cycles per year. I totally agree that a 3-4 month old stud is much too young. He is still a baby himself! I'd keep them separated until her next heat cycle, at the least.

| I am not a breeder, but I'm pretty certain that girls first heat is between 6months and a year. After that, she goes in heat about once every 6 months. Since your girl is under a year old it would be impossible for her to be on her 2nd heat. |

| True.. I have seen that most yorkies seems to average between 8-10 months before thier first heat. Some are sooner, some later.. but that is just an average. So I would think this is her first heat unleass you are sure she has been in heat prior to now.
