| when to feed babies Hi All, I have 3 new yorkie babies and they are adorable! They are 3 weeks old and I was wondering when I should start introducing soft foods. Any advice would be appreciated. |

| I usually start mine when they show me they are hungry by getting into mama's food and trying to eat it. that is usually about five weeks. |

| It changes with each litter, if it is a larger litter or mom seems to be overwhelmed then I will start at 4 weeks with some puppy gruel. Otherwise it is usually 5-7 weeks depending on when mom starts to wean them herself. I just follow her lead.

| Once my puppies start walking around, usually around 4 weeks, I will put a small double sided bowl of ground up dry food in the pen with the puppies, along with a small double sided bowl of water. The puppies will start licking the ground up dry food and as they get older they will eat more and more. I grind up the food in a blender until it is very fine like corn meal. As the puppies get older (around 6 weeks) it is not necessary to grind the food quite so fine). I always let my momma dogs nurse as long as they want too. By the time the pups are 4 or 5 weeks old they will not be nursing as frequently and the momma will want to spend a lot more time away from the puppies. |
