| Dark green/black discharge Juliet has some black/dark green discharge going on....I've read this is normal, but I need some reassurance!!! |

| It is normal for several days after giving birth to have a dark greenish discharge. The discharge is afterbirth and should really lessen after a few days. Many females will continue to bleed some weeks after having puppies. Just like us women bleed a while after having a baby. Just monitor her temperature very closely for the first week. Any temperature over 103 would be an indication she is getting an infection. |

| If you've accounted for all the placentas... the green/black is OK... otherwise there could still be a placenta in there....

| A retained placenta will make a black discharge. When mine had a c-section the vet couldn't get all the placenta out because it was too firmly attached. He told me to expect a black discharge and that is what happened. Just watch out for temperature spikes or obvious pus.
