| breeding during FIRST heat??? from what ive heard/learned breeding in the 1st heat is a NO NO! is this true for all yorkies? Pheobe is 10.5 months old and is almost exactly 7 lbs. shes in great health and is not acting aggressive to males. i have two large breed male dogs..un altered. they are interested in her of course..but not trying to mate..although i still keep them seperate from her. any time she comes near them she shoves herself at them. ive been calling her miss slutty pants. my friend has a male AKC yorkie who is about 1.5 yrs old.in good health..and weighs just under 4 lbs. i think they would make great pups together.. we were SET on breeding them but were planning to wait until the 2nd heat. but now im wondering if possibly it would be just fine for her to breed right now.. as she seems to be mature and is on the bigger side... i just wanted to get some opinions. cuz i dont want to hurt my little girl, but if she's more then ready to breed..id be willing to give it a try. what do you guys think?

| I'm not a breeder, but I think she's too young. She still may have some growing to do. My Jake had a growth spurt right before he turned a year.

| Keep in mind that dogs internal organs do not fully mature until they are 18 months old, regardless of size. Breeding on a first heat can kill the mom and the pups. It's not a chance worth taking. |

| Well, she might not. My Jake took forever to reach 3 lbs., and he has always been a great eater. He was 9 mos. old when he hit 3--I was so excited lol. Next thing I knew, I took him for his yearly checkup, and he was 4 1/2 lbs. Jackson seems to have topped out at around 6 1/2 lbs., but he's 9 mos. now so I'm wondering if he will have a growth spurt too. If so, he might be a monster too lol

| It is not just about them being full grown, it is also very important for them to be mature physically as well as mentally. We wait until our girls are at least 18 months old, we have all their health testing done once they are at least 12 months old.

| I agree! Wait until the second heat. Its like teenagers.. they are CAPABLE of having a baby at 12-13 years old (sometimes younger) but there is a reason it is frowned on. They just are not physically or emotionally ready.
