| Self Microchipping I am curious how many of the breeders here microchip thier puppies and if they do it themselves or have a vet do it.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I remember reading about one member who did this herself. Apparently they sell some type of home kit – not for the faint hearted.

| Mia's breeder asked if I wanted her to do it and then I asked her to see the size of the needle........I decided to do it when she got spayed...that needle is huge I know some people say their dogs didn't even flinch but again the needle tip is huge!!!!!

| My mom use to microchip her own dogs. I did it once, the dog didnt care but I almost threw up!!!!! It is about the same to microchip them yourself or take them to a shot clinic. I could never do it on a small dog though. The needle is huge. My little girl just got hers done and didnt even flinch but my husky acted like someone was killing him.

| chips I have done my own Yorkies. I hold them by the front and feed them a treat and my husband inserted the chip...none have made any notice of it...fast and simple. I have had the vet also do it..went okay...BUT with no treat to distract them, a few yelped, I will take a tasty treat if I let the vet do it again. Check out the Humane Society...ours charges $5 !!! AND $5 for a rabies...excellent services here in Florida. Last edited by YorkieRose; 05-21-2008 at 12:09 PM. |

| HS My daughter got her Yorkie, Bailey spayed, rabies and microchipped for a total of $15 last fall...I was floored. It was at least $65 in MD, but still a great price... Our MD Animal Shelter was wonderful... used them twice put a dog down for me ...they did it free, wrapped the body in dark plastic so I saw nothing..carrier the dogs to my car in the crates...I buried them at home...then sent me a card. I have a great deal of respect for a good shelter and support them. |

| If you take the doggies to te Humane Society to get microchipped, will they insist on you spay/nuetering your furbabies? It's $45 for Home Again here. I was contemplating doing it myself...but if I can get it for $5... |

| HS I would call and ask...the only thing that cost more was the cost of a license..S/N are cheaper then intact animals. How can they tell a female is spayed or not ??? Last edited by YorkieRose; 05-21-2008 at 02:23 PM. |
