| I've about had it with vets They told me Cookie's puppies weren't ready to be born for a couple of weeks. Supposedly, the xray showed that the bones weren't completely calcified. Well, she was in the kitchen and I went to get her puppy food out to feed her and in the meantime, she disappeared. I looked everywhere. I was standing outside, looking around with a flashlight and couldn't see her, but when I was standing on the deck next to the back door, I could hear digging. I ran around and around the deck looking under the highest part with the flashlight and I couldn't see her. I finally determined that she wasn't under the highest part, she was under the part that was only about 6" off the ground. When I knelt down I could see her through a crack between the boards and I could hear a puppy. I thought if you called 911 they'd come and help you, but that's a load of crap. The only way to get her out was to pry up boards and the boards wouldn't come up. They're nailed in too well. So we got the saw and cut to one side of her. Then took the hammer and tried prying from there, but the board kept breaking and it must of taken at least 20 minutes to get a hole big enough to get her out. She had one little male puppy that seems to be fine, but the other one, a female, was dead and it didn't look very big, so I think it may have been born dead. The xray showed three puppies, but I don't know if the dead one was one of them. So, I'm not sure whether to expect one or two more or whether they'll be alive. |

| OMG! That must have been terrifying for you! What time was this? I think I would take her in to the vet (as much as you hate them) I know it is hard to trust them now, but they should be able to tell if she is done or not.

| This was just at 11:00 PM tonight. It's only 12:14 AM now. I can feel at least one more puppy. I will take her in the first thing in the morning. My vet is open til noon tomorrow. I have to take her in anyway, because I have no idea what happened to the afterbirths. |

I Love Thor Donating Member | OMg what an ordeal! If you can still feel one in there, and you think something isn't right, maybe you should take her in now to a pet emergency vet...Gosh, I can't believe what you had to do to get to her! |

| OMG...take her into the vet NOW!! I know they're not always right...but if they take an xray they'll be able to tell if there's one more or not. And if you DON'T take her in, watch her closely, she might have one more. |

| We got a placenta, but no more puppies yet. She doesn't seem to be in any distress, so I think I'll wait until morning. The thing is I took her in on Tuesday, because she was having a dark bottle green discharge. Everyhting I've read says that that's a bad sign before any puppies have been born. The vet did an xray and said she was completely opened up but that the puppies were at least 2 weeks away from being mature enough to deliver. All she did was give me an antibiotic for possible infection. It doesn't make sense that the puppies weren't mature enough, because the one living puppy weighs 4.2 ounces. That's the average size, at birth, of the puppies from her last litter and the average size of the puppies in Ciara's litter when they were born. He cries and sucks and moves around just fine. I think the vet was wrong and if Cookie had had a c-section that day all her puppies would have been fine. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Wow, what a terrible ordeal! I am very glad the one pup is doing okay and of course am sorry and sad to hear of the baby that didn't make it. I see that you are in Michigan......was it cold/cool outside when she whelped?

| Well we were at the vet this morning. I guess the vet wasn't sure about a third pup on the xray Tuesday, but the xray today, both views, definitely showed no more pups. The little boy baby we have is very healthy, so I'm happy about that. I'm excited to see how he turns out, because I may keep him. I didn't know when the puppies were due, because this was the first time I bred Cookie. I delivered her previous litter, but she had already been bred. This time, when I bred her to Caesar, she was excepting him for 15 days. When I finally knew she was pregnant. I had no idea when they were due. All I knew was that they were due sometime between May 7 & May 20, with no idea of when she ovulated. |
