Britt,

I think, for the most part, people here really were trying to help. Sometimes passion for the breed, gets in the way of tactfully communicating their helpful intentions. I can tell you love your dog, and want to do the right thing by her! I hope that you will stay here on YT and see that there are really a lot of friendly people here.

or what if it is the whole litter?
that you have to potty and feed and weigh etc it isnt even about mixing
the breed it is about the night mare that can occur and how mentally exhausting it can be and how attached you get and still maybe loose
the pup or litter please do your homework it is so much more than just breeding a dog and if you want to know when the right time is well take her to the vet he can tell you!!! put money away just in case of a c-section most vet's want money upfront and double that for a night c-section
than put money away for vet check and shot's and a good puppy food and
for a good calcium supplement for momma and a high quality food for momma
and buy you some good breeding books so you undertand the good and oh so
bad about whelping and than a nose sucker and clamps and all the whelping supplies than money for tails and dew claws
also remember it is summer be prepard to give up going to the lake or a vacation or outings for weeks until pupies are ready to go
you need expen and puppy pads and washing little buts and cleaning poo for weeks than vet checks to make sure you are not selling a sick pup and believe you me cleaning alot of puppy poo and little buts for at least 12 weeks can be so much fun and giving albon for days if pups get coccidia
just please rethink what you are about to do it can be very costly and
heart breaking and money to be made well i am always going in the hole.
good luck!
Oh this post has sure brought me huge memories of tube feeding.. and how it is so exhausting to the mind and body.. I saved my little girl and still have her today.. but it is really something for the op to read your post well and take it all in..
I am sitting waiting now for my girl to whelp.. and I sit again on pins and needles as always.. I sleep in the same room as her and started last night.. this will go on until I am sure babies are doing well.. could be a couple weeks.. my hubby gets to sleep alone. He gets to look after the other dogs while I am with my girl.
Hope you really do your homework..and this is not even again about mixing the breed...anne

Britt,
I read this thread but I don't think I ever posted on this thread as I didn't feel qualified to reply to your questions. I love my pets dearly and have chosen to never breed them.

I would like to welcome you to our family of dog lovers. No matter what brought you to YT, I'm glad that you've done the homework and made your decision. Many people become defensive and make a decision to SPITE the advice they received. It says a lot about you that you didn't do that. I'm glad you're here.

Britt, I am so glad to see you did not run. And I am glad to hear you are doing the right thing for your girl. She is awfully tiny and I think she is just a doll and I know you don't want anything to happen to her. I am not someone who is trying to get you to buy one of my dogs. I have only bred mine twice and I am sure you read the outcome of the first one. The second time she had to have a c-section and we had her spayed at that time. We kept both babies and I love them so much. All now are fixed except the little girl who just turned one and we are hoping to show her. I think for the most part it is passion for the breed that has everyone up in arms. It feels like a desperate situation here when so many experienced breeders see someone come on here and ask the questions you asked and say in the same breathe that they plan to breed and it is within a week or so and they haven't yet read up on everything or done testing or seem to not know where to start. Then it is like we have to try to convince you to re-think it. I am so happy that you did read and you did learn all of the things that can and DO go wrong. Keep learning and if you ever do decide to breed, find a mentor and get as much help as you can because breeding really isn't something to take lightly. I wish you luck with your little girl and I hope you stick around and join in here. There is so much to learn here. Yes, some have come off rather vocally, but for the most part, I think it is just that we all care so much. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to ask me or send me a PM and I will be more than happy to do what I can to help.

Sonya
