| engorged teats I need help my little mommy came down with eclampsia sunday evening, so of course we had no choice but to remove her 4 very demanding 5 week old puppies, well now she is engorged and it looks painful, any suggestions on how to make her more comfortable, and dry the milk up?

| You may have to use a warm compress to help drain them for relief right now. Then after, I have used ace bandage to wrap around mom to dry mom up. This needs to be a firm wrap, not too tight as to hurt though. |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | Yes, I agree. Don't worry, the milk will eventually go away. This happened to my Gellica when her babies were only 2 weeks old, and we had to bottle feed them for the next month. I think within 2 weeks, her milk was gone. Sorry this happened to you, but I'm glad your Momma is OK.

| Use warm compresses and massage the teats. Also, dont feed her for 24 hours. (maybe just a low calorie snack or two, ONLY) The lack of calories should halt the production of milk. |

| I'm no longer breeding, but this happened to my Ellie when her puppies were only a week old. I found that if I put camphophenic (spelling) on them, a real thin layer, then cold cabbage leaves wrapped snug around her, it helped dry up the milk. Be sure not to put too much campho on them because it could cause some irritation. We also took food away for 24 hours. Then we gave her 1/4 cup of food, the next day 1/2, then back up to 1 cup the 4th day. This worked really well for us. Then I got her spayed after the puppies left. Everything's great now. I hope this helps.
