First you need to calm down. Take a breather. I will PM you my phone number. The temp. thing can drive you absolutely crazy on top of everything else. All dogs are different, but you should notice nesting (digging at blankets) first. When you see that, you will probably have your pups within 10 hours. Don't panic when labor starts and expect a pup to come out right away. Some girls are more vocal than others and will cry (mine don't). Some stand up to push them out. You don't want to panic and rush in for a c-section if it isn't necessary. There are signs to look for that mean trouble is coming. You are free to call me and I will help in any way I can. I'll call you back if it is long distance for you. You can delay labor by checking on her and making her nervous. If you panic too much around her, she could kill the pups. I'm not trying to scare you, please understand that. I'm just trying to put things in layman's terms. 11 months old isn't going to be a problem for her. Oh, I'll try to quick rambling and just get that number over to you....I could go on and on and on...and on. Julie

I was planning on learning everything beforehand and talking to my vet first..Well I came back from Florida on Feb 15th. While I was gone, my father watched Kallie and Stewie..About Feb 20th or so I noticed Kallie having dishcarge and I assumed she was either in heat or going soon so I immediately put her underwear on.. I kept her and Stewie seperated at all times. They did not go outside together and they rotated turns in theiir crates. I kept kallies underwear on her for 35 days exactly and kept them seperated since I wasn't sure of when she came into heat.About a week after I put the underwear on her, I noticed blood in them so I knew I was doing the right thing by keeping them seperated. I listened to Stewie howl and cry for 35 days until they were reunited.. I thought heat was 21 days so I was safe after 35. Well last Thursday, I cut Kallies long hair off and noticed her belly and nipples. I weighed her and she has gained 2 lbs. I called the vet and took her on Friday for an ultrasound...He said yep, there are 2 or more puppies in their... He told me to try and think about when she would have conceived?????? I have no clue.. What did I do wrong???? I am so afraid that something is going to happen to her.. The vet told me that she would be fine. That 1 out of 5 Yorkies has to have a csection and that there was no way to tell until labor starts. He said that it being her first heat was no big deal... Is this true?? What could happen to her?? He said that how she does will depend on her genetics not her age.... He said that we are looking at delivery in the next week or two and that if she starts panting them she is getting ready... That is it..... That is all the info that I got from him and now I am carrying her around and watching her like a hawk but I have no idea what I am looking for... Someone please tell me where to start.. I am not prepared for this and I do not want anything to happen to my baby...Is there any way to tell how far she is????
i would guess she got pregnant the first of march...after the bleeding stops.. there is a nine day stretch when they can get pregnant.. count 63 days.. or 9 weeks...due date could be may 2nd through may 10th is my guess.. she will be fine.. nature takes its course.. the first litter is scary.. at least it was for me..
just keep reading all the info on yorkietalk. and get ready quick.. you will need supplies and a mentor if you have one.. . best wishes.. yorkietalk has some great threads with recommended websites.. use the search .tool...

You need to take temps at least twice a day now...Her temp will drop from her normal pregnancy temp down a full 2 degrees....The temp may flucuate dropping down and then coming right back up for a few days until it comes down and stays down...It will usually stay down for 12 - 24 hours before active labor will begin...The temp drop from 100.5 to 100.2 to now 99.7 is not a big enough drop...If her normal preg. temp is around 100 her temp will need to drop down to 98 or lower...keep an eye on it!

The temp drops when her progesterone levels drop right before labor...Her temp will slowly start to climb back up after it has been down for about 12-24hours...This is what will start hard labor...

You will see her digging, whining, panting and feeling the urge to piddle more frequently from the pressure of babies moving down...She may throw up...Will usually pass a funky looking stool...may or may not eat...

When her temp drops do not leave her home alone...She also should be somewhere away from other dogs and the hustle and bustle of the house...

Good luck!

One other piece of advice is to make sure your male dog is not anywhere wher the mom can see him while she is having babies. Do not let him in the same room with her. NOT just for the puppies sake, but for his as well. He will make mommy very upset because she will be afraid he will hurt her babies and she may attack either him or the babies. You will have to keep him away from her for at least several weeks. Read those sites links and learn as much as you can. stay calm and she should do fine.

I checked her temp this morning and it was 98.9. Late last night and this morning it looked like she peed on her blankets i laid out for her. There was a clear wet spot and in the middle of that clear wet spot is a yellow spot that looked like pee but did not smell like pee.. What is that? I called the vet and they just want me to bring her in cause they are to busy to talk to me on the phone. The receptionist is not helpful at all but the vet is the kindest man ever... What should I do? Julz is it to early to call you??

Aounds like a possibility her water broke. You may want to decide now do you want the labor being done at the vets office or at home cause she may be to that point. Atleast she didn't Have her puppies on your bed while you were sleeping! Ice had that done by a eat terrier lol

Thank you sooo much for the help and the phone numbers.. I am definately going to take advantage of those as soon as I feel I need help again. She is resting very well today. She is in her xpen with tons of blankets. I had them all laid out and she fluffed them up and went to sleep on them. She has been sleeping all day so far but if I walk over by her pen, she wants me to hold her.. I seperated the xpen into two sections so that I could put Stewie by her but not in with her. They are miserable without each other and will not rest unless they are touching in some way.. It is so sweet actually... If she starts to show more signs of labor, then I am going to take him completely out of the room.. So far everything is quiet but I will surely be calling one of you as soon as something else happens. I am TERRIFIED of losing her..

She and Stewie may be the best of buds right now, but she will turn into a viper toward him after the pups are born. They should actually be seperated now. She needs a dark, calm area. Too many blankets could be a bad thing. Also, if her hair is real long a pup could strangle in it. In addition, something needs to be around the bottom of the x-pen if that is where you intend her to have her puppies. They are active immediately and could get out or caught in an opening. I'm glad she is resting peacefully. In the meantime, there are so may wonderful whelping sites online that are very helpful. I can't stress enough that Stewie needs to be in a completely different room than she is. Will keep checking for updates. I ALWAYS pray for an uncomplicated delivery resulting in healthy puppies who will live long, happy, healthy lives and for the Mamma to stay healthy and be a natural.
