| New Mom behavior problems Is it possible a new Mom will be VERY aggressive toward her owners and get over it as the pups grow or is it possible her personality can be damaged pemantly?(sp) She used to be a loving sweety and the babies are 12 days old now and shes not even a little likable. |

| I have never encountered that problem with any of my females in 12 years of breeding but I have heard of some females getting very protective over their puppies. Is she trying to bite you or is she just trying to shelter her puppies? I know my mommas get a little stressed when we pick up the puppies but they are never aggressive. I am sure as the puppies get older she will be back to her normal self. |

I would guess your female will relax once again as the babies get older. Heck, by 5-12 weeks she'll probably be begging you to take them away for a while so she can rest & have some time to herself LOL

| i dont have a problem with this at all.. infact... for the first 3-4 days the ONLY time i could get pebbles to leave the whelping box to eat or go potty was when i was sitting with her puppies. shes been fine with our visitors coming in to see the babies... although no one but me or my boyfriend has picked them up. she has been aggressive with my cat though... if he even THINKS about coming in the bedroom she starts her barking and growling. i think its normal to want to protect them... but hopefully shell start backing off soon.

She wont even go eat, the food has to be brough to her. the famliies 3 year old son cant even walk by the laudry room door with out her growling and chasing him down the hall. Shes bit him 2 times breaking the skin once. We really dont know what she was like before pregnancy so were hoping this is just a faze. She does seem to be doing really well with the pups thogh. |

| I have never really heard of this much aggression at this stage, especially towards family members. My girl had no aggression towards my family of 4 what so ever. She would be a little nervous for the 1st few days towards visitors, but soon got over this.

I know a 3 year old can get really loud and maybe that is why she is so is snappy. Maybe there is to much action going on the house? To many people in and out? And yes like KY Blue said maybe the little boy had done something to her in the past...Yorkies don't forget you know. Is this her 1st litter? I'd say she needs to be alone and maybe she's feeling insecure about others being around...They are very protective as this is only nature to them. Lee

| I think she is being perfectly normal for a new mommy. Some mom's are just more protective of thier babies. ESPECIALLY with a child in the house. Some yorkies are just plain scared of children. Sunshine is funny.. she lets my 3 year old granddaughter pick her up and carry her around, but not any other kids. She has never bitten anyone, but she barks at them if they run or they come too close to her (she also barks at bigger dogs).. It was funny at Easter time when we had lots of little kids here at the house.. The 8-10 year olds she was fine with UNTIL they got down on thier knees to play with her.. then she started barking.. I guess becausae they "got little". Mommy will get better.. Just let her feel that her babies are safe.

I would let her be and keep kids away from her (or anyone she does not want around).Let her keep them away from noise and the rest of the household if it is upsetting her. Hopefully she will get better as time goes by.12 days is not that old their eyes are not even open. If she wants privacy give it to her.

| I agree, I think it's just because he's a child. They tend to be louder and mother's have a good sense of who may or may not try to hurt their babies. Not saying the little boy would do so, but children are generally more rough. I would keep the little boy away from her, and maybe put her somewhere a little quieter, where she doesn't have to feel threatened. It's a natural response for a mother to be protective. Most of my girls WILL NOT let anyone else in the room with them when they're delivering or when the babies are really young except me. When Mikayla was in labor my sister walked in the room to tell me something and she flipped...bearing teeth, growling, and barking viciously. Once the babies were born she popped her head up anytime somebody opened the door...she HAD to see who it was. If it was somebody she didn't know, she did the same time...growling and showing teeth. Even Brooke, who is generally sweet and good natured, was very protective of her area. I was the only one who could touch her babies until they were 5 weeks old. Of course, when I try to leave it's a different story...they will whine and cry until I come back and sit with them. Spoiled spoiled spoiled... |
