CKC to AKC I have a yorkie who is CKC reg because the breeder said AKC is too expensive. However, I would like my puppies to be AKC reg. What do I do? Is that possible?

Sorry. To register a litter with AKC is not really that expensive. She might not have registered them with AKC because her dogs might not be AKC registered. T.

I think AKC is too expensive. they have been raising their prices for years and are at least 3 to 4 times higher then any other registry if not more. There are other reputable registries then just AKC. this is the 21st century not the 18th.

To register a whole litter with AKC - it is only 25.00. I guess AKC is higher because - it also pays for the representatives to check conditions of where dogs are kept, check breeders paperwork, etc... That has to count for something. I prefer to go with a registry where they check breeders. It is still very resonable - IMO. I also enjoy showing. P.S Sometimes you can get a coupon and get 10.00 off. T.

Last I heard it was $40, $30 if you had the coupon. Then they have fees for this and fees for that and this and that. Just goes on and on and will continue to get higher.

| I'm not a breeder, so I don't want to start anything,... but to me if you are already paying over $1000 for an average priced Yorkie (don't even make me tell you how much I paid for Brooke!!), can't you just add the AKC registry fee to the purchase price? Just like you would add cost of docking and dew claws removed? If you have 2-3 pups, it would be $10 or $15 more for AKC for each pup? Just wondering!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | They use this as an excuse because their dogs aren't eligible. I'm sure they would gladly pay the $30.00 or $40.00 to do this because it increases the pups worth by much more than that amount. However, if the parents aren't registered or the have lost privileges for some violation they use the excuse that it's too expensive. Registering your pup shouldn't be a status thing, it's about helping to promote good breeding practices.

Here is a link to the form - http://www.akc.org/pdfs/literap.pdf Litter Registrations: See only 25.00 and 2.00 per pup - that is it! So actually it is not that bad. The other fees listed is only if you want pedigrees, etc... And if you are breeding - you should know what the pedigrees would be before you breed, so you do not need a pedigree from them. Other fees are if you want to list the pups, or certificate - all those things you really do not need. I hope this helps. T. Last edited by topknot; 04-23-2008 at 01:46 AM.

Last you heard? Have you registered with AKC? I have never paid that much unless I wanted a printed pedigree with the registeration. There are a lot of registeries out there, but most of them are not any good. The few that are reputable all charge a fee to cover the processing.

Well, you heard wrong. I just registered an entire litter for 25. plus 2. per pup. The way you are attacking AKC, I wonder if you are the breeder in question?
