| Helping a small girl to gain weight! I would appreciate any suggestions on helping my little girl to gain weight. She is 10 weeks old tomorrow and weighs about 15 oz. We've had two hypoglycemic episodes. She is nursing at night (I'm making mama lie down so baby can nurse). I'm feeding her pumpkin, baby sweet potato and chicken, along with a few small pieces of boiled chicken breasts and a few drops of karo added to this mixture. I have on hand Nutri-cal & nutri-drops. I give her a drop or two of nutri-drops in the morning and evening. Am I doing everything possible to make sure she thrives? Can I do more or change any of the above? Your help is always appreciated. Thank You! |

| why the pumpkin?? along with nursing on mom (which she will be out of milk very soon) at this age she should be on a quality puppy food if you have difficulty baby food beef or chicken sticks for in between meals and for regular meals make a mixture of pulverized puppy dry food mixed with goats milk (you can add baby rice cereal as well) feed this 4 times a day also put karo in her drinking water.

| I was told the pumpkin helps with their stools. Is there something I can use besides goats milk? I'm trying to find some now, but in the mean time can I use something else? Thanks! |

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | my gidget is really small too and I hand feed her dog food all day long. At meals I give her a little cottage cheese and rice, and a dab of babyfood chicken. If I wait for her to eat on her own she would go all day. |

| pumpkin daily isnt necessary...stop feeding that! goats milk is available most everywhere in the can and at most healthy markets you can find fresh...I use the can and dilute it 1 can to 1/2 cans water...

| Ditto on the pumpkin - over the long haul that is not what you want to feed. I use Royal Canin Baby Dog food ( but any high quality will do), put it in the blender and keep that out for her all day. Easy to eat, easy to digest, won't spoil. For meals I agree with all said above. Cottage cheese, boiled chicken, chicken baby food, plain white rice, chicken broth, plain yogurt. Hand feed if you must. Mix the blender dog kibble with anything she likes so she will eat it from you several times a day. Good luck with your baby.

| Oh, on the pumpkin, just to be clear, our vet recommends giving it if the puppy has diahrrea and changing the diet to rice, chicken baby food doesn't clear it up. It provides a little fiber to help slow things down. But fed over a prolonged period of time it has just the opposite effect -- too much fiber.

When I got my Jasmine a few years back... she weighed 1 pound 11 ounces at 7 months old. I didn't think she ate enough so I would give her syringes full of yogurt or chicken/turkey baby food. (I think it was really more for ME... just so I knew she was eating something). I always left the dry food out for her. Now she is 3 1/2 pounds. Just the right size for her body type. She never had hypoglycemic episodes though. Wishing you all the best.

| milk You can usually find goats milk at Walmart..it is canned and the section with evaporated milk..Carnation etc. I would add an egg yolk, no white to it..and try a product called Dyne...it is very high in calories and puts weight on show dogs...you can find it online. |
