| breeder pays for neuter/spay? I was wondering if most breeders pay for spay/neuter for the pets when you have people buy them, or if you leave it up to the person buying the yourkie. |

| If you buy an older puppy, sometimes it may be spayed. But, most breeders sell their puppies with a spay/neuter contract which requires the new owner to be responsible for neutering the pets. |

| S/N Should you not buy the puppy if the breeder does not pay for the S/N or not require you to S/N? Is that the question? If the breeder has good vet references, fair, honest contract, healthy, sound pups of good quality, it would not matter to me if they S/N a pet or not..or required me to do so, I would do it myself for my pet. |

| Most people believe that if the breeder doesn't have a strict spay/neuter policy, they aren't reputable. I wouldn't go that far but if they don't require it, they aren't protecting their lines and it does raise a red flag. I would proceed cautiously but if the breeder seems reputable, I would still buy the pup.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When I got my Pixie from the breeder, she was 13 months old and spayed by the breeder, When I got Dixie from the same breeder she was 6 months and sold with the understanding I would spay her, same with Roxie, same breeder. The breeder knew I would spay them so I did not sign anything. When I got Cali, different breeder, there was no agreement, even though I would never breed. In my opinion reputable breeders require you s/n pet quality dogs. If the breeder does spay them I consider it a bonus as I don't have to go throught the worry that goes along with having it done.

| I dont pay for the spay or neuter of my puppies. If I would get a Dog back to rehome then I would. But depending on the dog I would then pass some /most of the cost on to the new owner. I feel like you MUST charge something Too many people pick up FREE dogs and do bad things with them I dont think you'll find very many breeders who will pay for puppies spay and neutering. Good luck in your search for your new furbaby

| All the puppies I don't keep for me are spayed or neutered . Just like Patti said , peoples should consider spay or neuter before leaving the breeder's home as a bonus . Also , they are pee pad trained , have all vaccines and baby teeth are pulled out . New owners just have to take very good cares of the pups . |

i think it would be great if all pet puppies were spayed/neutered before they left the breeders home but a lot of people just aren't comfortable with early spay/neuter yet which is fine...personal opinions. A breeder offering some sort of refund or paying for the procedure might be more incentive for the buyer to actually get it done, but I don't at all think a breeder should have to pay for the procedure. Once the pet is sold, the new owner is responsible for the vet bills (unless there is a genetic defect covered by the health guarantee). The owner buys the dog knowing it needs to be spayed/neutered and should anticipate that cost coming up and be prepared for it...if they can't afford to spay/neuter the puppy, they don't need to buy it.

| Are you concerned about the new findings that indicate that it is the sex hormones that signal the closing of the growth plates? They are now leaning towards not spaying/neutering until the dog is sexually mature for leg development.

I have heard though that many of your top breedings/exhibitors do spay and neuter younger pups and have not heard anything wrong about those pups development. My vet has talked to me and he will not spay/neuter young pups. But 5 months is fine with him. T. | |

| I want to protect these guys and have seen soooo many people breeding right now. It is really sad for our breed. Just look on here and you see so many breeding and some do not know about testing, the standard, or even what a pedigree is. Ugh!! I get so frustrated and even thought about just leaving YT and not returning. I get so upset by some posters. Reason enough to make sure I have mine spayed and neutered before they leave my home. They will just be a little older, before they even go to another home. People will also know more of what they are getting and a better idea on weight and size too. So I feel it is a win - win situation for all concerned. And the new owner does not have to worry about them being spayed/neutered since it is already done. T. |

| I'm leaning now more towards just spaying/neutering at 4 months if I do not keep a pup. After many talks with Myfairlacy...(going to one of the top vet schools in the country) and knowing some of the top breeders do it without any harm I am starting to change my mind on the age at which I will do it. Thanks Michelle I will NOT let my pups get into the wrong hands period! Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
