| Rescue/ adoption When people adopt or rescue dogs, are the dogs fixed before they get them? Or do they place them with "contracts" to spay or neuter? Do they follow up on checking if this was done on the ones that have such a contract? The reason I'm asking is that most of these dogs have already been thru &ell, and I have read where some people get these poor dogs only to breed them , and in my opinion put them thru more I have even seen posts on YT that I question if this has happened!!!! If its not said outright... you can read between the lines I know it has happened to the breeders, that the new owners breed when their not allowed to. Fake numbers for AKC etc.

| Most reputable rescues have the animals spay/neutered before they adopt them out. There is actually a law in Texas that says all shelter animals must be spayed/neutered before being adopted out. However, I personally know of one shelter that doesn't...which is very upsetting.

| I'm quite involved in the rescue and it varies from rescue to rescue. I think any responsible rescue should alter before adopting the dog out, otherwise there's that chance that the dog could end up producing puppies. Spay/Neuter contracts are VERY unreliable. I think the statistic I saw recently was only 30% are followed. With my rescues, they are altered as soon as they are old enough (4 months) and healthy enough. If they can't be spayed or neutered for whatever reason, then they stay with me until they can be. THe one exception to this (and I haven't had to deal with this yet) would be a dog that was so elderly or had some condition that would risk the dogs life when it was altered.

Reputable rescues will spay or neuter prior to adopting out. Pediatric spay/neuter is also becoming very popular as well to prevent people from getthing a puppy and then breeding it. Lilly was 13 weeks when we got her and she as already spayed. As far as breeders rehoming their studs or females I really wish that they ALL would rehome them AFTER they have been fixed. Some breeders do and some do not. It works for people rehoming their dog too. They state they want them in a good loving pet home yet sell them or rehome them in tact, when a simple procedure would prevent these dogs from ending up in mills or with byb. Elaine | |

Elaine This is just what I was afraid of So it does happen. How sad for the poor dogs In my contract it says I will rehome them for you. Please do not put them in a shelter. I am in contact thru visits , emails with pics. All my babies are spoiled rotten so far. But I sure will remember this if I do have to ever rehome one.

| When I adopted my Lucky from the Shih Tzu Rescue last year, they paid to have him neutered before we got him. He was almost 3 when we adopted him. I agree, I think any reputable rescue should do that before they adopt out.
