How do you get a Parti Yorkie.............I think they are sooo stinkin cute but I totally don't understand how you get the colors without them being mixed breeds...?????.....or are they??? I would love to get a Male......But if I bred him to my standard female what would happen??? LOL! I told you I wasn't a breeder!

| No one truly knows where that parti gene came from. Some swear it came from two purebred yorkies and others swear its not possible and that another breed was used somewhere. We may never know...

Parti colored yorkies are the result of mating a pair of yorkies who each carry a recessive pie gene. If you breed a parti to a standard colored yorkie without this gene...you will get standard colored puppies who are now carriers of the gene. Take one of those puppies and breed to another carrier or parti and you may get parti colored puppies. I say may because it's still likely you will get some standard colored puppies in the litter...however they will have the recessive gene. Clear as mud?

| Biewers and partis are different -- Biewers are now being recognized as a different breed -- they have a breed standard and can be registered with some registries. Partis are just Yorkies with the piebald gene. There is no standard for them.

| Yes........Thanks! But would it be possible to throw any Partis between the two? I see that there is alot of controversy over the diff types of Yorkies I didn't realize!

| Hmmm.......thats what I was wondering....I mean My Adelaide is as "Yorkie" as they get and I just can't see her carrying the genes for the differen't coloring......Kind of like the whole teacup thing that people go back and forth over.....How do they get so small? NOT ASKING! LOL! Just thinking out loud!

| Right. The piebald gene is recessive. Therefore, a parti Yorkie has two copies of the piebald gene - passing at least one onto their offspring. The only way for the two to have parti Yorkies would be for the normal colored Yorkie to have a dominant gene for normal coloring and the recessive piebald gene.
